I do bang on about this but I feel Wimbledon Wild Card is a great thing for a player to aim to qualify for. £27k minimum prize fund will make a massive difference to players at futures/challenger level. It frees them up for an extra ATP tournament, there is obviously the inspiration of featuring it can bring and theres also the chance they can win a match of course! It should certainly change the 2nd half of the season for most players.
I say this here because, with James Ward, Kyle and Liam looking certs, I think Ed Corrie is the next most likely candidate. If he dosen't qualify I suspect we'll just see the 3 out of the possible 8 going to Brits this year. I dont think Klein will get one, and the next most likely, Dan Cox, Alex Ward and Marcus seem just that too far away.
Ed currently has 206 ranking points from 14 tournaments to count towards qualifying. It would put him round about 240 in the rankings as it stands. After good points scored in futures, he has made a couple of quarters at challenger level this year. Another couple, or a run to a semi could well see him make it???
Its great to see him seeded but he's no easy first round match up. I have always thought Ed comes close to having that stand out result/tournament. If it comes here I would like to think it could have massive rewards. Fingers crossed Ed (and to Dan/Marcus too!)
Re MD WCs in Slams ( all Slams, not targetting Wimbledon ), boo !
But given we are where are, certainly Wimbledon MD WCs are a huge attraction and benefit to any Brit, especially a non LTA funded challengers / futures level player.
Marcus won the 1st set 6-1. On serve in the 2nd at *1-2
Been working daily with Marcus on the serve looks like it certainly paid off in the 1st set .
Doubles next v 1st seeds effectively playing scratch with Dan cox won't me going flat out and risking injury or fatigue . Will take it easy and see what happens in the doubles.
with the benefit of hindsight I think not having a regular doubles partner is a blessing in disguise .

Marcus has 11 H2H and his 2 wins are all on grass . So the statistics are not in our favour but on the other hand we are over due for a win ! . A win would be a real confidence booster
I'd presume most of the time the better ranking and general form has been Dan's so no surprise at all that he should be a bit ahead in H2H if maybe not quite so much.
Be interesting to see how this latest encounter goes.
Noticed today that Marcus ranking is now 403 seems to be going backwards. Anyone know how long Dan Smethurst is injured for don't see him on any lists in April either
