I only saw the last few games, but gutsy was the word. Little to choose between the two of them, heat and humidity had a big impact. Heather's big match experience and some top coaching got her through the match.
If you can win when you're flat, you're doing well. Well done to Ms Watson - and thank you, Madeline! Please start to arrange your timetable now so that you will be available for duty for the match v Kerber.

and if necessary arrange for the cat to be available to pin you down!!!!
Hev has been playing somewhat flat matches most of the year. Clearly a matchup that doesn't suit her. But somehow she got through a very ugly match and that is what counts. A day's rest and she can come out all guns blazing with all the pressure off against Kerber. Got a great chance of the upset in 2 days time. Her boyfriend has travelled out again as per last year, and you could hear his vocal support during the match. Hev does seem to suffer a lot with nerves even though you'd think by now she would have learnt how to deal with them.
Fingers crossed Heather gets to meet Serena then :)
Haven't researched this fully but if that occurs I reckon Heather will be on a new CH #37 assuming 5 out of Vinci, Barthel, Pavluchenkova, Begu, Bencic and Vanderweghe lose in R1; at #36 if they all do: that's not gonna happen though [reverse jinx?]...
You also have to look at the Casey and Riske that she could be overtaken should those just below go deeper in the tournament........
R1 wins for Riske and Bencic so far...
R1 losses for Vinci and Vanderweghe...
