Davis cup QF venue

does anyone know if the QF venue decided yet ?

The Australians are building new grass courts in Darwin to give them an edge in their QF why cant we do the same in Scotland that way we get a great crowd , Andy gets to play at home and on a favoured surface ?

I love Scotland and Scottish people ( for some reason ! ), but I am sure a good crowd and atmosphere can be generated elsewhere in the UK.

I shall repeat what I posted in the other thread

"Well if we are to have a really good run in the Davis Cup I think it would be beneficial to British tennis not to have every tie played in Glasgow. I understand that with Andy being the mainstay of the team it makes sense to have quite a few ties in Scotland but 5 of the last 6 home ties have been played in Glasgow and that strikes me as a little excessive."

Regular at queens as player and spectator and don't think lets say the more stuffy atmosphere will lift the team as much as a big Scottish crowd . The french are ranked no3 and have in last 15 years made 14 QFs to our 2 QFs . Particularly as we are the underdogs we need to carefully select the venue .

If it was to make a big positive difference playing in Scotland I see a point to playing again in Scotland. But I don't see that it should be that big an issue unless you you have say Queens filled with hoi polois !

And since also we have no suitable grass courts in Scotland, it seems OTT to construct one.

Why is it OTT to build one if it gives you a greater chance of winning ?

It be very convienent for me for it to be at queens as it's only 30 mins but I agree with the Aussie effort to build courts at a preferred location & create a desire surface demonstrates their federations passion to get the result they want

I made clear that I tend to think it's OTT when we have existing grass court venues AND I am not convinced a Scottish crowd must necessarily make a significant difference.

If it is thought that such an atmosphere can't be recreated elsewhere ( why not ? - though I share the potential concern re Queens if not ticketed properly ) then I do think you'ed have a point, given that as some folk will know that re Davis and Fed Cup, I am very much about the WIN.

If we have to play every tie in scotland to have the best chance of Winning the Davis cup for first time since 1930s then so be it

As I said again ( read my lips, err words :) ) that point I an not arguing.

My question is : can't a similar atmosphere be created elsewhere ?

If it is at Queen's it won't be the same stuffy crowd that you get there for the regular event. It will be a typical Davis Cup crowd. Just compare the normal Wimbledon crowd with the crowd for the Olympics.

And the Australian's aren't building a new venue because of their commitment to winning their quarter finals. There are already grass courts all over Australia and they have played many Davis Cup ties on that surface in the past. What they are doing is using the tie as an opportunity to promote the sport in a part of the country that never sees top tier tennis.

Craiglockhart in Edinburgh was grass before converted to clay centre court there would hold I think over 2000 not big enough and theres no point laying down one big grass court in Scotland which will never be used again Time for an English venue

Yes, RJA, I was just about to make the same points re the Olympics.

Particularly for the Brits, that was a much more fervent, patrotic crowd than normal Wimbledon. I think poor Fed is still in shock about what was happening around him on 'his court'.

If that could happen at Wimbledon, surely it can happen again, even at Queens, if the ticketing is right.

Re Australia and Darwin, yes I couldn't see why playing in Darwin would be advantageous compared to elsewhere.

You guys are talking about if the ticketing is right - do you mean the price of tickets? Is a london venue likely to mean london ticket prices and therefore make it less affordable to the travelling fans? It'd be nice to see Queens with an more enthusiastic crowd for once. I still think its a shame we are not going to use a bigger venue though.
