RE: Entries week 14 - 06/04/15

Paul, I wasn't really blaming the players. Just the LTA and their schedule.

I've updated the tables again

Huge amount of tournaments and at higher levels, but very few entries. I'm guessing we are at the transition from hard to clay

Fran should get a bye in Egypt - just 21 entries, not that many more in Tunisia(women)

Fran's just withdrawn cry  Guess that mean's her recovery is taking a tad longer than expected cry

Not remotely surprising but James Ward has withdrawn from the alternate lists of both Casablanca and Houston. He hasn't entered anything the following week so Barcelona qualifying looks like being the next time that he might play.

It wasn't that long ago when some on here suggested some of these doubles pairings and you explained to us how the boys laughed at our stupidity. Just saying wink

Wildcards for Lucy Brown and Beth Askew at Barnstaple.

One other open or not allocated, Katie Boulter and Laura Robson?

Jazzamay drew looks like she has a wildcard as well despite withdrawing....

Dan Cox didn't enter the singles, so either he will be top seed in qualifying or get a late place in the main draw like Liam did.

Marcus is 9th alt at present

Frankly, I think you're right. Whoever's to blame, there's been a big breakdown in communication somewhere.

In a country with as few players as GB, and where, seemingly, the budget needs to be cut big time, the authorities should have got in contact in with their key 6-10 players affected by their plan for a Barnstaple 25k and checked.

You can't be completely at the mercy of the players' schedules, obviously, but it is equally obvious that this should have been a 10k. It wouldn't have inconvenienced Barnstaple (same time slot, no real change) but, if funds are tight, why waste money on a 25k that no 25k player (bar Naomi) is attending?

Thing is, I think the national associations have to bid for the tournaments/slots well in advance.  I can image most players saying they have no idea of their schedule if asked too far in advance and without knowing what else might be on.

You may well be right.

And I guess this is the problem if you don't have a good relationship (or any relationship) between the federation and the players.

After all, it's one of these quid pro quo sort of arrangements - if the top500 players were 'in the LTA fold' so to speak (whether directly funded or not) then there would be an understanding and the women would organise their timetables accordingly. If everyone's just blithely doing their own thing, sink or swim, then it's as you say - no idea what the timetable will be, no compunction to play ball.

Although I largely agree with you CD, it is a bit ironic that the one top 500 player down for Barnstaple is Naomi Broady, a player who certainly has no decent relationship with the LTA. I am sure just because it suits her.

Yes, I agree - the irony hadn't escaped either hmm

Well, all good for Naomi if it fits her plans, and maybe a couple of the Q players will have a good run, but it still seems a mess really, as to resources, and the end result, so hope that somebody has a bit of a think going forward . . .
