Great win for Kyle Although I do wonder why Schwartzmann suddenly collapsed from 2*-0 up in the second set and hope it was due to Kyle's great play rather than any injury issues.....
Yes, I also noticed that it was very much one way traffic from the 0-2 down in the second. Kyle did not face another BP in the match and broke DS three times in the 2nd set and twice in the decider. A curious pattern of play, sham ewe didn't have BIT (~Bob in Texas) for a match report!
Another piece of good news is that his QF is on at a very reasonable time for us and should be streamed - 7.00pm.
Re. Dino, I think he will put together a run of matches when we are least expecting it. I'm sure he'll dip into the top 100 at some point this year...
Great news at last Kyle has made the big time and Livestreaming for QF. Generally a couple of wins against top 100 opponents would have secured a challenger win fullstop.
I think regardless of the minor worries about how Kyle won so easily from 0-2 this confirms that he is playing at a level that increasingly should allow progress into ATP 250s but probably needs a few challenger wins to get his ranking up to a level where he doesn't have to play weekends qualifying but can focus on recovery and specific areas of development to make tge next step. Last year that early part of the season was useful spent getting exposure to Different components on the tour I now think its time to unceremoniously bash out some points to take him away from weekend qualies make time for quality practice.
Do we know what Kyle's plans are for the spring? I'm guessing that after the $100k +H challenger in Guadeloupe he will need some rest and recuperation - that will have been 4 consecutive weeks of tournaments. Onto the dirt after a couple of weeks rest/training? Red or green? I know he could improve his ranking more easily by staying on the hard, but I'm sure he wants to have long term success on all surfaces.
R2: (Q) Kyle Edmund WR 153 beat (8) Diego Schwartzman (ARG) WR 63 (CH 58 01/15) 3-6 6-3 6-1
QF: (Q) Kyle Edmund WR 153 vs Steve Darcis (BEL) WR 90 (CH 44 05/08)
I have no doubt that Kyle is heading for the top 100, though personally I hope that James beats him to it ( just don't take too long, James! )
Re Davis Cup in July, a few months to go until then and, presuming that the tie vs France is on grass, grass court form will be pretty important. Though a factor, there will undoubtably be more to the second singles choice than who is then GB no 2. Essentially, it will be down to who Leon reckons is most likely to win.
Wardy is undroppable at the moment, but certainly Kyle could start to put some pressure on him if he keeps winning. The biggest factor in Wardy's favour is the lack of wins/ experience Kyle has in best of 5 set matches. Wardy's ability to outlast Isner was one of the biggest reasons he won that match.
Come July though, Wardy may not necessarily be undroppable, though what he has produced in Davis Cup will I'd assume be another big factor in selection.
