RE: Week 11 - Challenger ($125,000+H) - Irving TX, USA - Outdoor Hard

I see Bedene went on to take the title, beating Smyczek in the final in 3 sets. Smyczek had to play twice today.

That win will take Bedene well inside the Top 100 and into the mid 80's.

Well done, that man. Now he just has to get his paperwork sorted and my prediction will be looking good ! (Well, that one will - some of the others are looking highly dubious . . . )

A look at Bedene's points break down suggests he will be top 50 in short order. 420 of his points have come from just 4 tournaments, and he got to the final of an ATP250  in January.  He is defending 60 points in Miami though. He is on today's order  of play, but should be an  easy match against wc and world 440  Omar Jasika.

Kyle's efforts were not quite enough to get him a new CH ranking but he has equaled his previous CH of 144. In the Race to London rankings, he is at Nş 67.

Is this for sure?  I have read that many different rules on this. Can he and Klien play GB davis cup for deffo?  Was there not some deadline or something he missed?

There does seem some barriers to DC participation, but as long as he gets citizenship he can still play regular tournaments with GB next to his name.

I think there is no problem with Aljaz becoming British and playing under the British flag. However, representing GB in DC is a completely different question. It appears at the moment that the most likely scenario is that he will get his GB citizenship but NOT be allowed to play DC. Nothing written in stone yet though.

Yes great, just let him use all our funding and facilities and be a top player and not represent us..... We must get him into our DC team, even  if it means court sport arbitration

Provisions for exceptional cases exist in the rules and Bedene has a reasonable case. He has put down British roots. The alternative is as you say, the CAS.

It seems that Bedene didn't have much left after his exploits in Irving. He lost in Miami qualifying to 17 year old wild card Omar Jasika.

Just to confirm, as others have pointed out, my prediction, VandB, was only that (a) Bedene would switch nationality (to British) and (b) finish about WR 80 or 90 (can't remember, it's all in Sim's lists, and I must have written it down somewhere).

No idea about Davis Cup. I believe that he is perfectly eligible for British nationality (assuming he's passed that daft test) but would never try and predict the vagaries of the ITF and their admin and rules and shifting goalposts . . .
