Andrew bettles must be good to defeat josh in that fashion clearly a changing of the guard at the moment with new players to men's futures causing upsets .

That's a career best ranking scalp for Andrew (by 8 places)

Well done to Andrew, but I really don't agree re this "changing of the guard" thing.
Over recent months there has relatively been little real sign of movement further down the rankings. Maybe odd upset wins, but little of ongoing consistency.
The "guard" as such is the GB top 12, which has been in situ for quite some time. We have the GB no 12, Dave Rice, currently ranked WR 426 and who next Monday will have 103 ranking points, while the GB no 13 on Monday will be Farris Gosea, way back on 54 points and ranked about WR 580 on Monday.
The best looking prospects outside the top 500 are Farris and Cameron Norrie and probably Tom Farquharson, but his ITFs, for whatever reasons, are very limited.
I'd love to see more young players really threatening to cone through, but for now they are not really and there are very few signs of any changing of the guard. Worryingly some well thought of players seem to have plateaued for now.
We have two players aged under 24 in the top 500, clearly Kyle and Liam who are doing very well, with no others close just now. Let's hope this changes over the next year or so.
Don't read anything into Bettles beating Milton. Josh has been ill for a week or so and wasn't really fit for a competitive tennis match.
Strangely that is almost good to hear. Josh played so well in Marseille but has clearly struggled since. I was really hoping for a good run from him this week. If illness is the main cause as opposed to loss of form, then I hope he recovers quickly.
Had the livescore on in the background. I'm sure we're all bored of hearing it now but very disappointing about Evans, if not as unsurprising and confusing as ever. More pleasing to see is that having lost the first set and been a break down most of the second Willis just broke twice in a row to take the second set! I guess he is starting to feel better. Hope he has enough energy left for the third after his illness!

willis taking a while to get used to the new rackets today i would say
The stats suggest Willis could have won a bit more easily if he had done a bit better on the break points - lost serve three times he went bp down and and broke only four times from the 12 bp he created
It's not easy being a Dan Evans fan! Obviously we don't know all the facts, but I just wish he'd sort himself out and get back on the grind. It's not too late for him, but the longer he languishes at this level the less confident I am he'll ever reach his potential.
i too am an Evo fan however i think we all probably realise that's it now, which is a massive shame. Just how good would have a relieable evo have been?
