Interested to follow the progress of Marcus Walters, as whilst chatting to Liam at DC he mentioned him as someone to look out for in the junior ranks ( been very impressed with him whilst hitting together at Nottingham ).
Marcus spent weekend recovering from tonsilitis so as I said previously this morning will be a fitness test , I am hoping that can get through today and strengthen as the week progresses .
regulars on this forum will realise I am very am keen on the development of all GB doubles pairs the best of which could be an investment in future Davis cup campaigns so keeping my fingers crossed that marcus gels with Luke this week and will keep dreaming
Marcus and I both agree that his focus at least for next few years should be singles his A plan but I know with the right doubles partners eg those that Jamie & Dom currently have that Marcus is a top 50 doubles player and for me that should be the worst case post 2016 senario . Problem is it's not easy convincing a top 100 singles or doubles partner to pair with you when your 250 doubles I know have tried it's tough but we must simultaneously invest in a B plan .
I would not say that Marcus is currently a better doubles player than Dom but he also has a huge serve and is certainly an all round more talented tennis player . Dom has demonstrated what can be achieved in doubles if you have a huge serve and are highly dedicated .
Although at Marcus' age he should still be focusing on singles , Marcus loves doubles because he 's a real team player and a clever tactician and to immulate dom's success would be a very worthwhile goal .
