I'm not confident we will have a GB finalist this week. Too many question marks against our better players.

Pick of the matches must be Dan C v Tom F, but there look to be some interesting matches for Dan E, JWH and Dave R.

Some nasty draws there !

Interested to follow the progress of Marcus Walters, as whilst chatting to Liam at DC he mentioned him as someone to look out for in the junior ranks ( been very impressed with him whilst hitting together at Nottingham ).

Have seen Marcus at Nottingham. Also last week on the British Tour at Edgbaston he defeated Andy Bettles in 3 sets

From A1 team perspective Neil & Toby both got tough draws

Marcus match tomorrow will be a fitness test if nothing else .

Given my shocking memory I maybe wrong about this, but is this the 1st time the LTA have held a tournament at the Wirral for a long time.

 Your memory is shocking.....

Tom F beat Dan S last year

Ed C beat Dan S the year earlier

I may be wrong, but I think this is the fourth or fifth consecutive year the event has been held there.

I think it's the fourth year - Birkenhead Futures in 2012 (which I assume is the same thing!) then Wirral Futures fron 2013 onwards.

Marcus spent weekend recovering from tonsilitis so as I said previously this morning will be a fitness test , I am hoping that can get through today and strengthen as the week progresses .

regulars on this forum will realise I am very am keen on the development of all GB doubles pairs the best of which could be an investment in future Davis cup campaigns so keeping my fingers crossed that marcus gels with Luke this week and will keep dreaming

More seriously, all the best to Marcus re his health and his new doubles partnership with Luke.

I assume though that his main focus for the year remains singles progress.

Marcus and I both agree that his focus at least for next few years should be singles his A plan but I know with the right doubles partners eg those that Jamie & Dom currently have that Marcus is a top 50 doubles player and for me that should be the worst case post 2016  senario . Problem is it's not easy convincing a top 100 singles or doubles partner to pair with you when your 250 doubles I know have tried it's tough but we must simultaneously invest in a B plan .

I would not say that Marcus is currently a better doubles player than Dom but he also has a huge serve and is certainly an all round more talented tennis player . Dom has demonstrated what can be achieved in doubles if you have  a huge serve and are highly dedicated .

Although at Marcus' age he should still be focusing on singles , Marcus loves doubles because he 's a real team player and a clever tactician and to immulate dom's success would be a very worthwhile goal .
