But I feel for poor Jamie Whiteford, that's a savage day, and no wonder the poor guy retired.
Following sherbert;s comments re the Tour, why is the UK the only country that seems to systematically do two full rounds of tennis on one day? None of the other 10ks started like this.
Good point, CD, which I hadn't really thought of before.
QR1 and QR2 on the same day do seem routine in the UK, whereas not so practically anywhere else. Elsewhere they would have started a day earlier with QR1 on Saturday, and that seems sensible in pro tennis, even at these lower echelons.
I'd always assumed it was help players at that level avoid additional accommodation costs (which wont be cheap in the UK)?
I understand that argument but, given matches ended somewhere near 8 or 9 last night, I imagine some players ended up having to stay anyway. And for those who won, did they wait till 9 to book a room? Or did they book one in advance? After all, it's cutting it a bit fine otherwise. And what are cancellation charges?
I think the fact that no one else does it is a good sign that it's not a great idea - and I can't believe the Wirral is more expensive than the other 10Ks overall.
It's risky re injury and doesn't produce the best tennis. And also would be better for spectators if you could make a weekend of it.
The problem might be that the qualifying draws are never full in the UK. Players would have to sign in on Friday evening and then if you had a bye, play on the Sunday. That would be two nights for no matches. Unless you live locally then it gets expensive.
Also it will cost the LTA to hire the venue for another day and the clubs will probably not appreciate losing two Saturdays on the bounce.

Imran has taken the first set 6-1, Marshall in a tight match 5-5. Bettles/Hoyt scores not coming up.
I should be around for most of play tomorrow. If there are problems with scores, tweet me(@isenator1) and I will try and post updates. Otherwise I will put some updates on here in the evening
