RE: Week 11 - ITF ($10K) - Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt - Hard

Yeah, my apologies to both, if I jinxed it.

Hope for better luck for Katie tomorrow. Tougher match than today, I fear. Julia T has a 17/3 W:L record for 2015, and is going for her hattrick of 2015 Sharm 10ks. She is though 1:1 with Katie's beaten semi-finalist here, and has twice beaten Mihalikova, who played Katie at the AO, though I have forgotten the result.

And well done to Aimee. Good result over the week, up to around her CH doubles ranking.

I know the Swan family so thought I would post a comment.  Apparently Katie was originally going to go to Brazil but she had the opportunity to go and train at the NTC  and then go on to Egypt with Julien Picot, her French coach, so they thought it would be good experience to play in these tournaments and train.  She didn?t play doubles the first couple of weeks due to having so much school work and also she has just switched from Prince to Wilson rackets so has been getting used to these.  Great result today and good luck for the singles and doubles final Katie!

biggrin

Great to hear from you - and love the 'name' - keep it simple and to the point smile

Picot is the guy who used to coach Jo Konta, isn't he?

Presumably he's a new coach for Katie? Connected to the LTA, I assume, nothing to do with her old one from the States?

Good luck to her tomorrow - and glad she's doing her schoolwork smile

Yes Coup Droit, Julien was Jo Kontas coach. He worked with Katie last summer for the grass through the LTA and he was great with her. He took her to Australia with Maia and has been out to Wichita and worked with her team there. Her coach in Wichita is a college coach so cannot travel with Katie when his team are competing. The arrangement seems to be working really well and they all think very highly of Julien. He will take her to the French and Wimbledon.

Very nice work by Ms Swan - and thank you indeed, Britishtennisfan, for the insights. Really helpful!

Hey I'm surprised Britishtennisfan was still there for the taking, but I suppose it shows the demographic of this board. The personalised number plates are so personalised the average on looker must get the impression that contributors are much more " Big Bang theory" comic com flavour minus the intellect but with a healthy dose of cucumber sandwich and Wellington boot. Although BiS must add an element of singlet and flip flop. Thong could be misinterpreted.

Thank you for your comments we are lucky to get such snip bits and the no doubles until you have done your homework is exactly where it should be. It is also fabulous that all the hard work has fallen into place with a great couple of weeks experience and now results. Very excited for Katie her coaches and her family, should be an enjoyable finals day today, fingers crossed for another win but regardless she has made great progress this year on a number of levels.

Which is great. But the pattern of scoring suggests there's very little in this......
...fingers crossed.....

I think that the second set might now be the decider. Julia T has had an easier schedule; and I'd back the 19yo to outlast the 15yo in a trial of stamina.

3-2* now in the second, possible gap opening for Katie at 0-30

3 BPs now, can Katie keep up her 100% BP record?

Phew. Katie breaks to 30 and then shoots up 30-0 with her 2nd ace.
