RE: Week 11 - ITF ($10K) - Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt - Hard

Another interesting test coming at about the right level for Katie.

Of course 10Ks don't longterm bring a great deal of points. But extrapolating out to 12 10K titles only earning 144 points, so limited progress in rankings overall, seems to me all a bit irrelevant. What's the chances of Katie winning 10K title after 10K title, and certainly nowhere remotely near 12, and not stepping up? Not a lot. And when very good young players start stepping up, the process can be quite quick, though there is no one script suits all.

As it is, now is surely about experience and matches. Largely through her draws, she only played one main draw match in her Sharm weeks 1 and 2. That would be even more likely in say a 25K and just not necessary.

Thankfully, to complete her trip here, she certainly is getting matches this week, singles and doubles.

Now 1-2 in matches against 400 to 500 ranked players who seem to be proving a good competitive level for her. Hopefully, she still has decent gas left in her tank and her QF will make it 2-2.

Looks like the most impressive performance so far this week from Katie. Building confidence throughout the week. The draw has opened up as well, so a great opportunity to do something a little bit special.

A qualifier in the semi final(although she has a decent career high) and just the 7th seed left in the bottom half of the draw - chance to progress further.

And the real driving force for Katie now must be that she's two wins from going onto the GB top 25 table :)

Oh thats right Indiana, start heaping pressure on the girl, if she fails to make the main draw for Wimbledon this year we'll all know who to blame wink

She won by a clear 19 points, 62 to 43; so very dominant; cleverly used the cover of darkness to steal the last 8 games; should now get a WTA ranking (1165=); and takes her W/L stats into the positive, 3/2.

Her semi-finalist opponent looks to have a pedigree similar to today's victim; but if WC Lapko and Katie make the final, that will be interesting. Katie leads the HtH 1-0; Lapko has played doubles with Lumsden and AO Junior champ Mihailikova.

First the semis; both Katie and tomorrow's opponent play in different doubles semis in the pm. Can she defend her 100% record in WTA doubles? Can Aimee make her first final?

Good luck to them both.

I'm confused, wimbledont (easily done . . ) How will she get a ranking already ? Doesn't she need three scorers or a total of 10 or more from less than three? I don't think she's got that, has she?

The only way Katie can get a ranking is if she wins this week.

QF: (Q) Katie Swan UNR beat (4) Ekaterina Yashina (RUS) WR 422 (CH 376 02/12) 6-4 6-0

SF: (Q) Katie Swan UNR vs (Q) Aminat Kushkhova ( RUS) WR 919 (CH 389 06/11 as a 17 yo)

Yes CD, Katie needs 3 counters or at least 10 points for a ranking. She would be into the 1100s in the rankings from 4 points if they had come from at least 3 counters. For now she needs to win the title to get a ranking, which would be around WR 900, probably inside the top 900.

Nicely done, Ms Swan. That's now what - five wins? Got to be good for the morale.

Well done Katie. Focus on playing and developing your game. The rest (i.e. results, etc.) will follow.
