RE: Week 10 - ATP Masters 1000 - Indian Wells CA, USA (JW)- Hard

Ward will be very confident & want to keep winning. People on here need to chill, he will deliver...

The England rugby team don't tend to play their first match so quickly after their long haul flight.

I could certainly see his first match going wrong / I am a bit unchilled about his first match.

Yes not ideal, jetlag, fatigue, emotional letdown, maybe a niggle or two, not alot of time to prepare and get used to vastly changed conditions, but on the positive side confidence and feel good factor must be sky high.

I suspect it depends what class he was travelling too. I heard they were travelling on the Monday, but nothing was mentioned as to whether they were flying together. I imagine you'd get a good chill out on a private jet as opposed to cattle class. I daresay James can't afford to travel business class.

He was flying American Airlines from one of his tweets, and his coach Darren Tandy took a selfie from what looks like economy class, so I assume James was in economy too!

Krueger is v winnable though, and hopefully he'll be fully refreshed for his final match

Would have been a nice touch from the LTA (or Andy!) to pay to get James upgraded as a thank you for his efforts. I just fear that the matches on the weekend and then long travelling plus 8 hours jet lag will prove too much.

I haven't counted, but I don't think there will be that many players playing Davis Cup and then in qualifying. Certainly all the other GB and US players will get more rest.

The late start won't help either; say 6pm =2am UK time

My LS has him starting at 00.30 our time?

I would have hoped that the LTA would have given him a present of an upgrade too. It would make a huge difference, knowing that you were appreciated. Does he get any extra money for winning his match? I'm assuming they do get payed for playing DC?

Re. times - the clocks went forward in the US on Sunday, so California will be 7 hours behind us (instead of the usual 8) during Indian Wells.

No idea about his Transatlantic flight, but James, Andy and Dom were all on the 20 past 8 BA flight to Heathrow on Sunday night. It's a good job the tie didn't go on much longer because that was the last flight out, unless they fancied flying EasyJet to Bristol or Stanstead.

The horrid pusher Zverev beat Nishioka too, which *should* be good news. Remember Ward lost a frustrating three setter to him a few seasons ago which should never have happened; I think the current James should be better than that though.

What's the latest on 'x wins from the top 100'? It's too early for such calculations for me and I'm sure someone here has done them already :)
