RE: Week 10 - Canada F2 ($15,000) - Sherbrooke (Hard - indoor)

Good to see Ed and Dan back together in the doubles, having for whatever reasons not been playing together since last summer.

They looked then a good challenger pair, let alone futures.

It is fair though that singles still looks a big priority for them both.

Final:  (1) Ed Corrie & Dan Smethurst CR 419 (182+237) vs (2) Kevin King & Dean O'Brien (USA/RSA) CR 423 (162+261)

Worth noting that King and O'Brien are last week's finalists, the pair that Dan and Gigounon defeated for the title, 6-4 6-4

The Brits are trying to set up a rematch of last year's SF here - Dan has been taken to a decider by Quigley but on his 4th match point ...

QF: (3) Ed Corrie WR 246 beat Matteo Donati (ITA) WR 416 (CH 284 last Aug) by 6-4 7-6(4)

Well done, Ed. He's been playing a lot of tennis, and a lot of good tennis too. Challenger last week in France, 15k this in Canada, Challenger next week, back to UK the week after for another 15k. And doubles too - pretty intense.

Dan has 2 match points in the tiebreak when I looked, only for Quigley to win the last 4 points of the match

QF: Dan Smethurst WR 335 lost to Eric Quigley (USA) WR 458 (CH 428 last month) by 4-6 6-4 7-6(6)
QF: (3) Ed Corrie WR 246 beat Matteo Donati (ITA) WR 416 (CH 284 last Aug) by 6-4 7-6(4)

SF: (3) Ed Corrie WR 246 v Eric Quigley (USA) WR 458 (CH 428 last month)

H2H 3-2, 2-0 last year, both in Canada, including last year's QFs

That's the second third-set TB that Quigley's won. And the third three set match.

Hopefully, Ed can put an end to that . ..

In Dan's last 8 futures quarter finals ( dating back to Kuwait F2 in November ), I believe all as the higher ranked player, he has lost 7.

The exception was when he won the Sheffield futures title in January.

But generally picking up futures QF points is no great help to man nor beast nor a player close to the top 300 with a lot of points to defend.

Hopefully, he can step it up again soon.

And we have a couple of s:

Final:  (1) Ed Corrie & Dan Smethurst CR 419 (182+237) defeated (2) Kevin King & Dean O'Brien (USA/RSA) CR 423 (162+261) by 3 & 2 biggrin

Much easier than I expected. smile

I think it's last night's semi-final against Gigounon & Michalicka that they won 3 & 2 - I don't think the Final has been played yet.

Whoops...   Just not my day... no  Wishful thinking, I think...   It all started going wrong last night, but it was quite late & I was very tired after a really trying day at work (IT problems meant that we were without e-mail, so electronic contact with the outside world, for most of the day furious ).  Also very misleading to have the ITF LS still showing yesterday's semi-final result today! evileye

Gutted for Dan. I think he is very close to putting a good run together.
