Heather did well to stay composed long enough for Giorgi to go off the boil.
54 unforced errors including 18 double faults from Giorgi. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that Radwanska won't be as generous in the next round.
Weird match. If Giorgi could serve and control the aggression, she will be top 10, but today she was just so erratic and she gifted Hev games with DF's.
Hev's first serve was a problem again in the first set.
Brilliant from Heather to pull through. Inspired by Wardy? Curious to know what Hev's been working on with Greg recently as the serve doesn't seem very secure. Can't remember where I read about this but don't think it was on this forum.
That's 65 points now for Heather, i.e. the same as she got last year for qualifying, winning her R1 match and losing in R2.
The WTA did a decent job last year in clearing up most anomalies. I think this Indian Wells ( and Miami ) one remains largely because it's a 96 player main draw.
I was worried when Heather failed to serve for it at *5-1 (I believe) but was delighted for her when she won. The trade off of the 29th seed is of course having the 7th in R3 - Radwanska will be particularly difficult.
Aga up next. Aga's not been Hev's best match up in the past. Kinda has the same kind of game as Hev but does everything better. I'm hoping the new more aggressive Hev will take it to her and get a better result than their previous encounters.
I joined the match at 7-5 3-0 and my heart sank when at 5-0 the commentators had given the win to Heather already...so I blame them for the next 5 games (plus Giorgi shooting from the hip very effectively of course); so pleased Heather weathered the storm to close it out in 2 for one of her best ever wins :)
Can't see Heather getting past Radwanska unfortunately so here's hoping that's a reverse jinx...
It was a great opportunity to beat a player of Giorgi's ranking, and she had to take the scalp given how many errors the Italian girl made, so phew!!
Lots of good stuff for Hev at the moment, but I thought her footwork/movement which used to be one of her biggest strengths has become a tad more sluggish lately. So I believe her 1st serve has improved massively and I like her more aggressive ballstriking, but I do think if she could work on those other areas she might cut out a few more UEs and stay in the rallies longer.
