I read somewhere that the Davis Cup rules say that the venue must be available for the entire week for practising. So a venue being otherwise booked for the first day rules it out. You would think the ITF would understand the problems of booking venues at short notice!

After the Gilles Simon "very unbalanced team" quotes, Clément issued a far more 'political' captain's sort of statement ('it'll be very hard, every point').

Benneteau has now said that the doubles will be decisive.

and, guess what, Dominguez has said that the contest will be very well-balanced - but it's a big surprise as the French had assumed that the Americans would win !!!

though maybe they'll be creative and purpose build a court somewhere like horseguards parade!

The Australian's are building a grass court (+2 practice courts) in Darwin specifically for their QF against Italy.

Well if we are to have a really good run in the Davis Cup I think it would be beneficial to British tennis not to have every tie played in Glasgow. I understand that with Andy being the mainstay of the team it makes sense to have quite a few ties in Scotland but 5 of the last 6 home ties have been played in Glasgow and that strikes me as a little excessive.

Looking ahead, if we were to beat France we would probably be at home to Australia in the SF in September. I would imagine that coming after the US Open Andy would prefer a hard court but Wimbledon Court 1 would be an intriguing prospect (we played there in Sept 2007 and again in 2008)

Andy saying in his post match interview on sky that he would like the tie to be played at Queens.

Hopefully someone somewhere has enough influence to convince the members.

I doubt that the club could refuse a personal request from the Prime Minister, or that the Prime Minister would miss out on such  populist gimmick in the run up to the general election. I am pretty sure that Murray would be able to get in touch with him.

The BBC are reporting that Queen's does now seem like the most likely venue and that they have definitely decided to play the tie on grass.

Good stuff.

Hopefully if it is Queen's, we will have a great crowd and a real Davis Cup atmosphere similar to the Emirates.

It will be bloody awful old chap. Bad enough that we have to let the plebs in 1 week a year but twice is really going too far.

When will we know the venue ?  will certainly go to the last day but have to reserve 18/7/2015 for a Aegon national tier play off in the event A1 don't automatically qualify for national Aegon mens team  finals 4-6/9/2015
