RE: Davis Cup 2015 - World Group Quarter Final - 17th-19th July

Stunning comeback from the Aussies - only the second time they have ever won from 0-2 down (the last time was 1939, almost as long ago as the last time for us before we beat Russia in Coventry) and the first time Lleyton Hewitt has ever won a *live* 5th rubber, though he had only played two live 5th rubbers before, having been AUS's no. 1 (and thus playing the 4th rubber) most of the time.

It's quite unusual for all four players in a team to play one singles rubber each - Stu Fraser tells me the last time it happened in the World Group was 2007, when Russia beat France 3-2 in the QFs, albeit not from 0-2 down.

That promises quite an atmosphere if we manage to get through (far from a foregone conclusion even though we must be heavy favourites now), though I think I'd still have preferred Kazakhstan from a 'the tie we'd be most likely to win' perspective.

You can never count the Aussies out ! That's a great comback and another example of the importance of doubles prowess in team competition . IF GB get through does that mean we will play the aussies at home that would mean record decibel ratings. ! Lol

Just in case it hasn't been mentioned, Clement has decided to play Simon against Andy, which I really can't fathom, was certain it would be Gasquet

Well I did call that it would be Simon and that is surely just what GB wanted !

No doubting Simon's abilities and battling qualities, but he doesn't match up well to Andy in that Andy is generally just better in all facets. And they have Gasquet, absolutely rested, who offers something different, matches up better and has shown such recent very good grass form !?

Of course all is still to be played out, but ...

Yes, an Australian SF would be at home, as would an Argentina final ( Belgium would be away ).

It has previously been observed that it would be difficult to get a more satisfying combination than taking out the USA, France, Australia and Argentina at home !!

Murray seems troubled. Could be down to James and some prayers being said.

Murray down a set and a break and being generally outclassed.

He just seems to be running on less power. He must be tired.

And the nation breaths a humungous collective sigh of relief. Muzza is back.

Classic Rope-a-Dope tactics.

Get in there Muzza. Maybe the comeback is on. How he dug himself out of a hole there in that tiebreak. Full credit to him.

2-4 down in the set and 1-4 down in the tie-break but he really dug it out.

Does he have enough in the tank? Doesn't look comfortable out there at all. Really needs to step up the aggression - I haven't seen him this passive since... well since he last played Simon, oddly enough.

Was broken back but eventually broke again to take the set 6-3. Utterly sublime lob on set point.

Are all these falls due to the courts having to be gotten ready so quickly?
