RE: Davis Cup 2015 - World Group Quarter Final - 17th-19th July

I don't think that France will play Tsonga in the reverse singles. I'd be really surprised if it weren't Gasquet and Simon.

It's Andy and Jamie.

v Tsonga and Mahut.  Interesting. Is Gasquet being drafted in for one of Sunday's singles, or is he just supernumary?

Smart. Tsonga is (in my opinion) their best doubles player barring Mahut. But he really probably isn't up to another singles match. This way, they play their strongest doubles team and then have a fresh and rested Gasquet to throw into the reverse singles.

With Tsonga's serve, this is the best doubles pairing and he has a 5-0 winning record in DC dubs too. Gasquet then completely fresh for the not-so-fresh Murray encounter tomorrow. Smart.

The french are claiming that the English pulled a fast one,a bluff, ( La GB a donc bien bluffé . . .) because Dom and Jamie were out practising this morning but, yes, at the last minute they put in Andy instead.

everyone wondering about Gasquet though....(instead of Tsonga on Sunday? instead of Simon? Just a reserve? So you sacrifice an established doubles team for a reserve? But then who cares about established doubles teams anyway, a top singles guy will always do as well if not better . . .)

And the pictures of Tsonga and mahut practising this morning are quite comical (although maybe it's just the ones they've chosen)

If Gasquet is coming in, surely it would be to replace Tsonga who will have already played two days running, so he would play Ward. Simon who has had a day's rest to face Andy, who hasn't.

Yes - seems the likely plan. Simon particularly dangerous when you're tired because of his ability to win long, drawn-out matches. And Gasquet v Ward ... well, partisan though I am, I would be surprised if Mr Ward were able to win that one. Then again, it's Mr Ward. You never know!

For what it's worth, if anyone else is interested, thanks to the cancellation of play at The Open and lunch break at The Ashes, the Davis Cup is on Radio 5 live. Hurrah.

And the TV coverage has been moved to BBC1.

Team Murray have a real match on their hands here. Obviously Mahut is a great grass court player and a doubles regular, and Tsonga has looked very comfortable so far
Have to say I'm still not convinced about the decision to play Andy (see my earlier comments) BUT if we can turn this match around and go on to win the tie, I will quite happily dish up my own humble pie and stuff my face with it!

The pivotal doubles rubber finely poised at one set all (4-6 6-3), Andy, who was broken in his opening service game, finally having found his rhythm... smile
