RE: Week 10 - ITF ($10K) - Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt Hard

The other problem with juniors is that its a combined ranking, and even though they only count a proportion of your best doubles scores, it can assist some players (not Katie really) in getting a much higher rank than their singles results would suggest they necessarily merit, and that's true right down from the higher ranked players doing well in Slams and Grade As/1s right down to those who's (much lower) ranking is based mainly on doubles success in Grade 5s.

Pity Katie couldn't get a maiden MD win and also that this was her only match, having got a bye and w/o in qualifying.

But, to my mind, it's been an encouraging enough couple of weeks, with two competitive matches against top 500 ranked seeds. That's about the level I'd hope she'd be competitive at, but not necessarily win.

Last week : lost 6-7(7) 6-4 7-5 to Luangam (THA) WR 458 ( now WR 422 having won the Sharm title the week before )

This week : lost 6-4 6-4 to Zekry (EGY) WR 477

It should be all about learning/experience/etc. and appreciating the difference between Junior and Senior level for Katie. A win should be seen as a bonus.
