She had an unlucky draw, v the top seed, last week in france. And posted a very good score.
Interesting that, assuming therefore with that match, and this one, that she's playing well, that this is exactly the time last year that she suddenly had a bit of a light-bulb moment and had a really good run of form. Maybe this is her 'time of year'. (It's one of things coaches are taught to help their players learn to identify).
Am very impressed with Eden overall. This time last year she was outside the top 1000 and has made steady, if unspectacular progress upwards. I think she was encouraged to do most of her tennis in pro events too young and as a result never seemed to get off the starting blocks and so is probably largely dismissed as not likely to make a mark. However, as CD says, a penny seems to have dropped and she is quietly moving up the rankings.
I reckon Eden will be top 500 before too long, given her age and progress. (I still think Em WS should get some credit for that doubles win in Sharm - maybe coincidence, but it all seemed to click after that).
Don;t know why she chose the path she did - must have been tricky, as a junior, playing all those senior tournaments, week in week out, and not having much/anything to show for it. But maybe she's learnt her craft the hard way. Good luck to her. And here's to the top 500.
