Home side provides playing surface so can vary through the season. West Hants has a variety of surfaces; acrylic, green clay and astro; also some indoor courts.
There's no rule in France. Right up to the elite level, you play on whatever surface the home team has.
Group stage play on home clubs surface which is frequently hard although raynes park away is carpet cos a DL . Finals suit clay players as on green clay at west hants . Shame we did not qualify Matt short as he specialises in clay
Last year Marcus Willis struggled on the clay and had dips promoting singles results but was not fully fit so a fit Marcus will be a bonus ,
Although we lose Matt short from last year but gain improving peter bothwell and experienced team player neil
pauffley who will be a major
2014 winners 2015
Marcus Willis Marcus Willis
matt short Toby Martin
Toby Martin Neil pauffley
Matt illingworth peter bothwell
harry Meehan Matt illingworth
Harry Meehan
Piers Herfet jones
Overall I think If Marcus is fit our team is stronger than in 2014 with the gain of peter bothwell and Neil pauffley compensating for the loss of Matt short . Will take 5 players to the finals and piers Herfet -jones as he lives locally
"On Saturday 18th July ST&SC host Winchester in the National League play-offs. The winner of this match will qualify for Bournemouth. The match will start at 1200 and details of our squad will be announced in due course.
Qualified for this years play/offs and Finals are Tom Farquharson, Ollie Hudson, Andy Bettles, Tom Burn, Evan Hoyt, Adam Thornton-Brown, Jathan Malik, Cam Norrie, Jamie Whiteford, Jonny Gray and Alexis Canter. A strong squad with an average age of 20."
(Seems that Tom F has obviously therefore been playing UK team tennis, as well as French, in answer to what else he's been doing instead of ITFs)
Wow Gary's team are playing St Andrews Uni team, I used to play against Craig Stevens in the Central District Doubles league...so this match will be very one sided!
the st andrews boys are really nice guys and im friends with a couple of their players. craig stevens has actually had a cracking last 2 years in the saints team including beating clay crawford last year. however there was a bit of controversy with how the saints won the scottish league. they got 3 walkovers from teams not playing but, rubislaw (who won the scottish league last year and finished 2nd this year) played all of their matches and lost to one of the teams who gave st andrews a walkover.
the general jist i got was that if st andrews played the matches that they got walkovers from they would have lost and rubislaw hence would have won the league. one of my friends in the rubislaw team said they put in an appeal and were confident they would get the league, evidently it wasnt sucessfull, however last year they got hammered by sutton but enjoyed the experience. woud've been nice to see some pro tennis players playing in aberdeen this year though!

st andrews also had one of dominic thiems former training partners, karl czern, i think he's called, on their books for the 2nd semester this year but dont know if he will be about for this match
Ah that's interesting Huntley93, link to the draw in question below. This highlights a number of issues. Firstly why does the format differ from the National format, in England, if you hand one walkover, you are immediately excluded from the league and relegated. All matches you played previously do not count, so this issue would not have occurred, making it a fairer playing field for everyone. Also another issue for me is why there is such disinterest in this event in Scotland. I played in it for Stirling and we travelled to Dumfries, not ideal (1.5 hours) but it was great fun, so potentially it needs smaller regional splits, like North, South, East and West (like county cup) then play offs etc. The other issue is the timing, I have no idea why they can't play at the same time as the rest of the country. As in the 2014 winners of Scotland play in the 2015 finals. The official line is that it would clash with the Scottish Cup, but I'm sure teams could be put out.
I'm not sure why it's different because Ive not personally been involved in it. But I agree with the problem of travel, that's what put us at Aberdeen uni off against entering a team last year, not wanting to have the risk of goin to Dumfries or Peebles on A Sunday afternoon
