Aegon men's team tennis

I might have got this wrong Gary - but isn't that 7 group matches? Just looking at Neil playing the challengers and which ones he will be available for.

Yeah your right  my mistake There are 4 national divisions ( groups ) normally teams ( 32 in national tier ) so 7 group matches

appear to have promoted 2 teams /relegated 2 .

1A1 Pharmaceutical

2 Sutton R & S

3. DL raynes park

4. Bromley

5.connaught

6. Roehampton

7. paddington

8. Woodford wells

If I remember rightly last time Neil played it was a 5-1 victory over Roehampton in the regional tier 2013

Former Davis cup captain paul  hutchins watched  and his son defeated Matt Illingworth

Relegated gosling ( for a no show)

Virgin active surrey ( struggled & failed to get team out v A1 )

A1 Pharmaceuticals Aegon men's 2 defeated  beckenham 4-2 in a thrilling 4 hour encounter .

Piers Perfet-Jones made a promising start at no1 defeating a costa Rica Davis cup

player .

My team went down 2-10 to Connaught 2nd team. I was beaten at no.1 by a 5.1 full time coach, whereas I am an 8.1. Our no.2 won and then we had a chance in our doubles 5-4 up in the 2nd set but lost 5-7. The Connaught team had 3 players all rated 10.2 and looking at standards they were more like 6.2-8.1 This is the trouble with the rating system because even if you play all the aegon team tennis matches you can't go up more than one rating. So many players in the country keen to play competitive singles but not competing at present, in my opinion!

Great to hear your account, Born2Win - I love team tennis, love reading about it too.

You're right that the ranking system is no good unless people play enough matches (that count) for the ranking to be properly representative. And for that, there's got to be enough inidividual tournaments too. Real shame if people want to play but can't or are put off . . .

Good luck for the next meeting. Keep us posted

Thanks, well I have a series of Grade 5 postal tournaments starting 1st May, so if there truly is untapped demand from players who can not commit to 3-5day Grade 3-4 tournaments we might find out!

I advertised around Aberdeen for my singles league quite a bit last summer, never got more than 7 players though and really needed 10 minimum to make it sustainable. Happy to have another go this summer though for a postal Grade5.

id be keen for singles league during the summer as i will be there for most of it this year, just had too much university work to play in the previous rounds during term time. we advertised it in the University tennis club and got one or 2 sign ups. i know one of my friends played it and enjoyed it.

So are exams May/June? Would a 1st June-31st July league or postal tournament suit best? Let me know and I will log one on the LTA website.

I wonder what happened in the shoot-out here??

O'Mara could have played fellow Scot Jamie Baker in a champ tiebreak.

lta.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/teammatch.aspx

It's a shame the system doesn't record the outcome, as it can be the most exciting part.

If 3 rubbers all:

No.1 or 2 plays No.2 or 1 - in a match tiebreak
No.3 or 4 plays No.4 or 3 - in a match tiebreak

If 4 rubbers all:

Remaining players play doubles in a match tiebreak

Jonny sneaked it 10-3 I think he said. great tie apparently very close. Jonny was a bit tired after Bournemouth but hates letting anyone down so managed to get down to raynes park and play. He, Jamie, chris eaton and Jonny barr went on for a round of golf after so no hard feelings all round!

Judging from the pictures tweeted by Evan a week or so ago, Jonny has a half decent golf swing too smile
