RE: Week 9 - Challenger (€42,500) - Quimper, France (hard)

Ed has some quite big pointers coming up in the next few weeks (and he lost 10 points today). Hope he gets a decent draw - agree that they look good spots, considering.

nice play by Ed - well done

I don't understand why more players haven't entered Quimper (GB or otherwise) so many byes in the qualification. maybe there's always byes against seeds - dunno.

Anyhow, all the better for Ed and Liam. Good luck to both :)

Ed avoided Arnaboldi ( biggrin ), but could end up playing Liam in the second round ( cry )!

L32:  (7) Liam Broady WR 182 vs (SE) Andriej Kapas (POL) WR 333 (= CH)
L32:  (Q) Ed Corrie WR 266 vs Vincent Millot (FRA) WR 217 (CH = 147 in February 2011)

Cheers Paulisi, as hoped for he didn't need the lucky loser spot anyway.

Good win and decent placement in the draw. Would not be nice for Ed and Liam to have to play each other but it would be nice for them to get to that stage, and both need a QF points-wise so good luck to both.

Liam was practicing with Wardy in Glasgow today, so will be interesting to see if Liam withdraws. With DY in the US team, makes sense for Liam to be a practice hitting player this week.

Interesting that Liam is not on the OoP tomorrow although it's possible he's just asked for a late start.

So, in answer to why Marcus (and maybe others) are not trying Challenger qualies this week, it's because he's playing a Tier 2 British Tour event !!!!

He's just tweeted that he'll be in Glasgow all week, so it's looking more like a late withdrawal.

Hmm, I wonder if Kyle ( more likely than James ( or Andy!) since he did have some injury ) is rather less than 100% and Liam has gone to Glasgow as further Davis Cup assistance / cover.

I wondered with DY being a lefty, Liam was being used in the role of hitting partner to get Wardy and Andy acclimatised to playing a fellow lefty, cover as well of course, but nice to see him in and around the DC squad.

And, of course, one of the specific components of the new Wimbledon wildcard policy is 'making yourself available', if asked, to play at Davis/Fed Cup events. I think Phil's scenario sounds very likely (Young's forehand, in particular, is pretty similar to Liam's) and Liam may well be cementing his wildcard there.
