Congratulations to Talia Neilson Gatenby on her first WTA ranking jumping straight in to WR839 and Lauryn John-Baptiste on regaining a ranking for the first time since October 2017 (has it really been that long?) with a CH of 1016 which takes the total number of GB women with a rankingto 38. Sonay climbs 291 places to WR539 as the first of her W25 title points go on. Katie Swan temporarily takes over GB#6 from Jodie but will give it back next week.
GB Top 15 12 (=) Emma Raducanu 82 (+1) Heather Watson 124 (+2) Harriet Dart 134 (-2) Katie Boulter 149 (+1) Fran Jones **New CH**
We currently have 38 ranked women, but because of injury, illness, retirement, US college or other reasons quite a few of those have been inactive for some time including 6 who haven't played WTA/ITF for over 12 months. There are also those that have not yet got 3 counters or 10 points this year. Most are not due to lose their ranking until the back end of the year so have plenty of time to get the additional counters needed.
These are the 17 women who, as things stand, could lose their ranking this year.

Interesting list. Gabi Taylor and Naomi Broady retired I believe. Ali Collins is now a doubles specialist. Katy Dunne and Maia Lumsden both back in training.
Naomi has never gave an official retiral comment which is rather odd but I think weve got to assume she has. Laura Robson also hasnt said but Id imagine she has as well.
Wasn't sure where to post this but sounds like Beth has had a real fright with an issue which meant she needed to get heart surgery earlier this week. As gutted I am this happened as she was rising up the rankings, I'm just so relieved whatever the issue was was spotted and hopefully sorted. Could have been very serious if left untreated I imagine.
Paul, I posted it in her thread in the individual players section. It must have been scary, but she did manage to look bright and cheerful for the photos.

Naomi seemed to stop playing after Wimbledon, not sure why she never announced anything. Laura pushed back against journalists declaring her career over after the latest operation last year but has shown no sign of attempting another comeback.
The good news this week is Sonay climbing into the top 400 and Jasmine into the top 900 as Glasgow points are added. Jodie also regains the places she lost last week, retaking the GB#6 spot.
The bad news is Heather drops out of the top 100, leaving Emma as our only top 100 woman. Heather has the same number of points as Harriet but retains GB#2 spot by virtue of having 3 more points from Grand Slams and WTA1000s than Harriet (234pts to 231pts). However, it should be said Harriet has more points from wins at these levels (220pts to Heather's 180pts). Heather's ranking has required her to have played more tournaments at these levels than Harriet, which has given Heather more R1 loser points and the greater overall total than Harriet.
Katie Swan drops out of the top 250 with the points dropping from the first of last year's two W25 titles. She'll regain those points and positions back next week following yesterday's W25 title in Santa Domingo.
GB Top 15 13 (-1) Emma Raducanu 120 (-38) Heather Watson - WTA250 Acapulco 2020 W drop (280pts) 121 (+3) Harriet Dart 136 (-2) Katie Boulter 153 (-4) Fran Jones
Biggest mover up the GB singles ranking in February was Sonay up 14 to GB#11. Runner up (and a long way behind) was Alicia up 1 to GB#17. Sharing biggest faller Going in the opposite direction was Maia, Freya, Gabriella and Emily all down 2 places.
Wow. Good spot. Hopefully - it's usually the ITF site that gets updated / notified first. Would be a great addition to the ranks, and she's playing the best stuff of her career, but isn't there complications regarding Japanese citizenship (generally)?

I believe you cannot have dual nationality or you need to choose before a certain age - I'm sure that's been said about Naomi Osaka before

She was definitely still Japanese during the week in Lyon.
There was a similar problem with singer Rina Sawayama who complained about not being eligible for awards despite spending most of her life in the UK as she never became a British citizen because of Japan's rules against dual nationality.

Another item today is that the LTA have confirmed that world no. 206 Lily Miyazaki will now represent GB. The 26 year-old, born in Tokyo, has lived in the UK since she was ten.
Lily is at a CH of 206, and becomes GB #7 between Jodie and Katie S (OE live rankings). Not a lot of points between the three of them though (although Jodie and Katie are both in W25 QF's today)
