Ah pity. Having saved two match points in her R1 match, I thought that Katy was maybe going to come through from MP down again, but couldn't get that second set back to parity.
Katy now up to 149 points on Monday week, which equates to WR 277 on the current ranking list. Consistently advancing in the right direction and certainly consistently playing tennis seemingly around or above that level.
I think she'll get inside the top 100 at some stage, whether she can stay there will be the test.
She can strike a decent 1st serve not maybe 105mph + but certainly near the 100 mark. She was getting plenty of unreturned 1st serves last year when I watched a few of her matches on the grass. But I agree needs to get the 1st serve % up, not unlike Hev.
I agree Phil, I think she can probably get there if she keeps plugging away and working hard and developing her game, but it would probably be a Katie O'Brien type top 100 career, rather than a sustained leap into the top 75 like our Big 4.
Let's hope her career doesn't end like Katie's though, in an early retirement.
I would put her a little ahead of Katie in that she's already shown the ability to get a big scalp, and taken a set off Giorgi. I always felt that Katie struggled as soon as she hit the WTA tour level, whilst just before that she was unbeatable at Chally level.
From the few times I watched Katie OB play I felt she was a bit too error-prone to establish herself in the top 100 long-term. I think Katy can hopefully be a bit more solid.
