Have to say he looks very young and needs bulking up a bit

It is about time Daniel Cox had a thread of his own. Here is his graph.

It is a bit dull. Basically Daniel won a point at a futures tournament in India at the end of last year and he won 3 points at GB F12 in August. In between there have been lots of 1st round defeats at futures level which sadly are worth no points.

Currently Daniel's skill level is such that he can qualify pretty routinely at futures level but he struggles physically when he comes up against hardened profesionals. He has had rotten luck in futures draws, he usually draws a seed and loses in 3 sets, hopefully that will turn arround soon.

At this moment there are around 60 1988 players ranked ahead of Cox. His ranking will go up to around 133 on Monday.

I'm not sure but I think that they were knocked out in the first round of doubles yet again.

Milton has around 75 '88 players ahead of him.

They next play tomorrow in a G2 in Thailand. I think that Cox will head back to the UK from there because all the events between then and Eddie Herr are G4s or G5s. He can play in the two Futures and attempt to qualify for Shrewsbury.

Dan should get into AO. Josh will need to work really hard.

Lovely hat! And you are right Drew, it must be some kind of crisps packet.

I did a rough calculation -

Dyce is ranked 110. 55 players who were born in 1988 are ranked ahead of him.

Daniel is ranked 133. 61 players who were born in 1988 are ranked ahead of him.

Milton is ranked 158. 72 players who were born in 1988 are ranked ahead of him.

Dyce will almost surely get in. Two rounds at Eddie Herr will prevent accidents from happening.
Cox should get in if he plays like he is capable of. He can do well at Eddie Herr if he doesn't draw any of the big guns.
Milton will find things a bit tougher and will need to play more events than Dan to get in there.

Daniel is coming back to Britain after this event. He entered himself in the Futures at Redbridge.

Nope, Daniel won't play 16&U tennis for one last time. He will play in the Orange Bowl in the 18&U category. You must admire that boy's courage at times.

He has played there only once I believe, in 2004 in the 14&U category. He lost to the eventual champion in two tightly fought sets (7-5 7-6) in the quarters. So he can do well here.

Mackin's decided to end the year playing the 2 GB futures and Shrewsbury, his aim is to get to around 230 by the end of November so he feels that this is the easiest way of doing that. On current form, I'd say he's favourite for those two futures.

I'm guessing that Dan will play in Redbridge and Sunderland and then head to the States for Eddie Herr or do you reckon there's a chance he'll try to fit in Shrewsbury qualies aswell Greenleaf ? Maybe Madeline will get the chance to see him in action for the first time, in Sunderland.

Hopefully the decision to go for the U18s in the Orange Bowl will pay off. Which other Brits are entered ? Who are the top players going to be, is Thiemo De Bakker playing ? Donald Young ?

Young will play there. De Bakker stopped playing juniors after Wimbly.

Dan's competitors :

According to me, the following boys of Dan's age group are the best in the world. They are all winners, exceptionally talented and highly rated. We are really lucky that a British boy can be included in this elite list. I think that all these players are perfectly capable of cracking the top ten in the men's game in a few years time.

1) Gastao Elias - Portugal - 24 Novemer 1990.

This boy is regarded as IMG's best 1990 born player. Gastao is a real force on American hardcourts, and was one of two 15 year olds to win a match at this year's USO. Gastao is ranked 55 in juniors, the highest among all 15 year olds.

Gastao became one of the few players in the game to play a Tour match before their 16th birthday. He played Tursunov as a lucky loser in Estoril and lost 6-2 6-2. He is playing in the semifinals of a Futures in Portugal today. Very few players can boast reaching the semis of a Futures at 15, and I don't think that anyone in the top 100 did that except Nadal.

2)Lazare Kukhalashvili - Georgia - 5 November 1991.

Lazare, another hard court expert, is ranked 69 in the world. He was the finalist in Le Petit As, Tarbes, the world's most prestigious 14&U competition last year.

He hasn't played since July, so I assume that he is injured.

Very sadly, he hasn't been able to play men's tennis because Georgia doesn't have a single Futures!

3) Jonathan Eysseric - France - 27 May 1990.

The current European 18&U champion, Eysseric, is ranked as high as 4 in the world, even though he is the only 16 year old in the top 50. I expect him to become the world number one next year.

He has three men's wins and on top of that, three Futures doubles titles.

4) Chase Buchanan - U.S.A. - 4 June 1991.

Chase defeated arch rival Kukhalashvili in the finals of Tarbes last year. He was also the youngest match winner at this year's USO Juniors.

Chase also has a senior ranking point under his belt, which he won at the expense of fellow 15 year old American, Rhyne Williams. Chase and Rhyne are regarded as the future of American tennis in the post-Agassi era.

5) Rhyne Williams - U.S.A. - 22 March 1991.

Even though this boy doesn't have a senior ranking point, he won the 14&U Orange Bowl crown last year. He is ranked 144 in the world and reached the semis of Kentucky G1 before losing to Graeme Dyce.

6) Tsung-Hua Yang - Chinese Taipei - 29 March 1991.

Even though he is ranked an average 186 in the world, he really outshines his opponents in the fact that he has 4 Futures wins at this age! I suppose that he is the only 1991 player to have that record.
