Week 6 - ATP 500, Rotterdam, NED - Indoor Hard - doubles

Q1: (8) James Ward WR 109 v Nicolas Mahut (FRA) WR 112

Edit:  Given Dino's disappearance from the qualy draw & the presence of Jamie Murray & John Peers & Colin Fleming & Jonny Marray in the doubles qualies, subject line edited to reflect potential doubles interest during this coming week.

RE: Week 6 - ATP 500, Rotterdam, NED - Indoor Hard

James has never played Mahut before. The Frenchman seems to be focusing more on Doubles at age 33, having only played (and lost) in Q1 of the Australian Open so far this year in Singles.

Same section as (1) Struff and Berrer.

The rewards for qualifying here are not likely to be great. The qualifiers will play Murray, Raonic, Dimitrov and Monfils.

Sounds as though JS was misguided enough to bet on a Monfils match. . .

Only a 16 Q draw in Rotterdam, last entry WR 142 every draw is going to be relatively tough. On the plus side 10 points if he wins this match and 20 if he qualifes (obviously the 10 is a bit redundant because of his top 18 - perhaps more important $1165 for making FQR)

He's nearly as nutty as Fognini. The sheet disrespect shown in his Wimbledon matches last year beggared belief.

Unfortunately, the ATP live score page now seems to have replaced James with Basilashvili.

Possible that James has a slight injury and thought it was worth giving it a go but after seeing the draw, both for qualifying and the main draw, no longer thought it was worth taking the risk. He would have had to play well to qualify and with the best will in the world was not likely to win a main draw match.
