Katie Swan

Honestly I question Katies ability to play professional tennis. She clearly has the desire and the ability, but injuries of this regularity suggest maybe her body isnt cut out for it.

Not suggesting she should go and retire - but this must be SO frustrating.

I have to say I tend to agree with you sadly. Lovely girl. But it just feels like every time she goes one step forward she then goes two steps back. I admire how she keeps fighting back. How many times before you eventually get fed up and having to continually stop. Pro tennis is brutal like most pro sports.

I wouldn't write Katie off yet, she is close to her career high and as far as I know doesn't have a chronic injury like Kyle that needs managing. It is a bit frustrating but in my recollection, she has never needed to use a PR so all 6-8 week lay offs. Possibly an issue with her cycle making her more prone to injury at certain times which is something that can be tracked and her schedule adjusted to reduce risk.

Just to mention, congrats to Katie who recently became GB #3, overtaking Katie Boulter, but behind Harriet and Emma

As of 03/10/22, she's now WTA 129, a career high for her

And a candidate in our Player of the Month vote for September as well! Which I am sure boosts her confidence no end

Katie Swan is having an excellent week

Has made the semis at Surbiton 100k, and counting, including beating the top seed, Tatjana Maria, WTA 67

Playing good grass court tennis

As before, if she stays fit, she's a shoo-in for the top-100

I criticised Katie the other week. I'm happy to feel wrong since she is having a cracking week at Surbiton. If she could just stay injury free then yes she could crack the top 100. I just want her body to hold up and let her have a decent run of events. Good start for her on the green stuff

Has anyone heard about Katies injury , any sign of a return date?

At the moment we have Katie Swan out and constantly injured, Raducanu constantly injured, Burrage out for months (but had a prolonged injury break - even though another career plagued with injury), Fran Jones injured - obviously this is out of anyone's control, is Kartal out injured?.... I know it's been mentioned many times, but that's a LOT of our top girls with injuries. Do Brits have a larger percentage of injuries for top players than others? Why is this?

Katie isn't on any entry lists for the next couple of weeks. No sign of Sonay anywhere that I can see - and isn't even included amongst the 86 British women listed on https://itf-entries.netlify.app/women-players

I think Sonay posted something about training on Instagram earlier this week.

It's so gutting. I guess that's sport really, not only the mental, talent and CBA side, but will my body hold up, and how to get a supportive training schedule. Wishing her well.
