well, despite being broken three times Mr Corrie has won the first set 6-4. I must say Ed's forehand down the line on set point looked suspiciously long but will have to give him the benefit of the doubt there
Well, Ed started great, 2-0 up, then played some of the worst tennis I've ever seen him play. But dug deep, found a little extra, hung in, and managed to sneak the set, 6-4 . . .
I would say so. He has played some nice stuff in this match, just very inconsistent. Apparently played very well against A-Ward though in the first round.
And of course we should congratulate Dan Cox for enabling the 'ker-ching' moment when the new LTA Bonus Pool Box is forced open and a cloud of moths rise out . . . First time, I think, under the new rules . . .
If you look at his record, he scores heavily in clusters so is clearly a confidence player. He is very solid and could definitely climb into the top 200. Hopefully this will be the start of another run of big points.
I think any player this side of 28/29 who's made the top 300 as of right (i.e. not through flukey wildcards and withdrawals) has the potential for the top 200.
Ed has been as high as ATP 215 so he's easily nearly there.
Congrats really too to Gosling - Ed and Dan Cox are in their camp and have performed well this week (quite a lot of similarities in their game, I've always though - grafters, solid, great attitude, classic technique . . )
