RE: Week 5 - Challenger ($100,000) - Dallas TX, USA - Hard

Dubious goings on in Dallas.

Denis Molchanov (UKR) WR 174 is playing Augustin Velotti (ARG) WR 303. Molchanov started the match as favourite and won the the first set 7-5 at which point money piled in on Velotti winning. Molchanov started making error after error and lost the second set 6-2.

Look, it's hard enough to persuade Tara that WR 300 is in the top 300 without stuff like WR 300 = CH 302 !

Anyway, Qs now placed and Cam has come off fairly well:

L32: Liam Broady WR 180 v (5) Denis Kudla (USA) WR 131 (CH 90 in 2013) *
L32: (Q) Cameron Norrie WR 676 v (WC) Eric Quigley (USA) WR 485 (CH 475 in Dec) #

* H2H 1-2 - Kudla won in juniors in 2010 and in Nottingham in 2011 but Liam beat him 5 & 0 in Charlottesville last year

# Quigley is something of a nemesis for Farris Gosea (who lost to him 3 times last year) but he has lost to Ed (twice) and Luke in the last 12 months

And eventually lost the match by 7-5 2-6 3-6...

Broady just starting on the live stream. Seems to be wearing the same nike kit as Kokkianakis at the AO

he's standing a mile behind the base line? lack of confidence or normal position? I haven't watched Liam much

feel he needs to step in and intimidate opponent?

Making way too many unforced errors so far. Down 5-2 with 2 breaks, Kudla looks very comfortable.

Really poor first set from Liam and loses it 6-2. Lots of mistakes and clearly getting very frustrated with himself. Needs a big turnaround to get in this.

Doesn't really seem comfortable with the power of Kudla. Lots of UEs too

Kudla's served very well, don't think Liam's had a break point all match

Well that was disappointing.

Liam never got anywhere near his serve, served poorly and made so many errors.

The worst thing is that he seems to have changed his style of play and was trying to go for power rather than the court craft we are used to and the timing wasn't there.

The result is hardly unexpected but the scoreline is certainly disappointing.

Hopefully ( and I think probably ) just a bad day at the office.

It's just one match from a guy who's been on a very good path of late.
