You've made the same mistake as CD, Steven: it's the first name that's double-barrelled, not the surname, though I agree that the latter would look less outlandish. I noticed that it was Ross-Tiree on the live scoreboard & promptly checked his profile (such as it is!) on both the ITF & the ATP sites, which show it as I've typed it. Then there's this from the Beeb in Scotland (2009), though I'll grant you that can't always be taken as gospel...

The strange thing is, I knew this (so I can't claim to have assumed it must be the surname that was hyphenated), and had just come back to correct it after noticing I'd got it wrong on my list of this week's matches when I was about to tweet about him qualifying. Ah well, it's been a long week already ... and it's only Monday! LOL

Pass! Couldn't find anything on Google to indicate why they saddled him with such a name (don't have a problem with Ross on its own). That said, it doesn't take much to make me cringe at parents' choice of name for their offspring...

There's a place called the Ross of Mull on the Isle of Mull and Tiree is an island just to the west of Mull so maybe it has something to do with that. Maybe one side of the family is from Tiree and the other side from that or some other Ross in Scotland or they liked the name Ross and he was born on Tiree. Those guesses are probably all rubbish, but still ...

Reasonable explanation, steven, although I'm not sure naming your child Southampton-Bournemouth or Manchester-Stockport is is to be recommended (nor Ross-Tiree, really).
Just for SC, I had a friend who had three kids, all with names progressively more daft than the one before. As the birth of the fourth one approached, I threatened to kidnap it out of the maternity ward, get it registered David or Margaret, as gender dictated, and return it with a label round its neck, saying "I'm your baby. Sorry I have a sensible name; please love me anyway".
Sure enough she named the little girl Minnie-Moo !!!!
The only positive to take away is that said little girl, at the tender age of 4, turned round and said firmly to the world that she would only answer to Minnie (just about acceptable and what choice did the poor love have?) and any reference to Moo or Minnie-Moo would be 100% ignored. She stuck by that, and has turned into a strong, determined teenager who will do well in life. . . .
NB the Brits both lost their respective doubles matches . . .

So, based on her original name, she turned into a proper little cow No, seriously, good for her - and what were the parents thinking?!
