RE: Judy Murray - Appreciation

It all could have been so different...so close to beating Sweden in the play-off during Judy's first year.

Annie K for captain anyone? :)

Don't really know enough about Annie to comment coherently. She seems 'nice', and we all know about her record - but, Leon has non of that and he's been a great captain. No clue what the magic ingredient is, bar Andy of course

Don't forget a smattering of the worlds number 2 doubles player! Often no doubles win souls equate to no DC win.

If dear old Bally were still with us she'd have been a shoo-in; pretty confident Annie would make a good fist of it. To my mind the biggest part of the job is to persuade your best players to turn out. For whatever reasons, Judy was unable to call on Jo or Naomi this time; it is moot whether Annie would have had more luck, of course, but I have a sneaking feeling she might have had. We might get to see next year...

Leon Smith is the best candidate in my opinion.

"Coaches waste a lot of time talking. Kids learn best by copying. So go perfect ur demos. Check this clip out :)"

The woman knows what she's talking about.

Still reeling after seeing an hour's coaching at Sutton tennis centre where the 'coach' spent 5 mins hitting with the 10-ish year-old and then 10 mins sitting down talking to him. The kid was a good player. But barely hit a ball.

And it wasn't the only time.

I know there are some good ones but the level of coaching in general that one sees is pretty awful (some of the stuff going on behind the Bank of England courts was pretty dire - very old-fashioned).

At the same Sutton session, I was also shocked to see another 10-ish year old lad on another court, also having a private tennis lesson. Similar structure. Not quite so bad.

The first kid was definitely a little better, technically, but not a lot in it.

Any coach worth their salt would have got them on the same court - thousands of ways to structure a productive, fun lesson with two players of a similar age and level. Even if only for the second half of the lesson.

But I guess then you only get one coaching fee.....disbelief
