is Serena ok health wise? have watched her last two matches. against Garbine M she had to stop play as she was coughing. at the interview after beating Dominique Cibulkova (which was a good match despite the score) her voice was croaky. maybe she has a cold, I hope that's all it is.
It seems to be merely a cold according to the media and Twitter. It didn't seem to affect her much last night but it sounded uncomfortable in the interview!
In Serena news, she will be playing Indian Wells this year for the first time in 14 years - having boycotted for well understood reasons.
To think, she has counted the mandatory 0 from IW on her record for the period since she reclaimed the #1 spot, and even with it, at one point in 2012 she was jut 100 or so points short of having double the world #2's total!

Venus apparently supports Serena, but isn't playing.
The BBC report includes the sentence: "The American beat Belgian Kim Clijsters in a final marred by the behaviour of some fans who heckled her and her family, apparently in response to sister Venus withdrawing injured from their semi-final"
I'm rather unhappy about this: it makes it sound as if a few people heckled and she, sensitive soul, got upset. But @si_tennis has posted the actual footage of the match; it is absolutely appalling. How anyone could do that to a player - or anyone - is beyond me. And why no one from the tournament picked up a mike and told the crowd to stop, I do not know. They should have.
Good for her that she's going back, and that she's using the occasion to raise a lot of money for a project that helps people who have suffered travesties in the justice system. But I can well, well understand why the family has stayed away.

Looks like Serena is expecting a baby according to a report in the Daily Mail online! Surprise news but congrats to her and her fiance! Due in around 5 months, September ish . Will miss Wimbledon and presumably US Open as well, and French??
It does sound odd indeed, but the congrats have been flowing in on twitter today, and Serena's publicist confirmed it.
(Just how many different people does she have in her team ?!!)
I hope her pregnancy goes well, hopefully she is still enjoying her tennis enough to want to come back as a mum. She is so good I think she would continue to keep the rest of the tour honest.
This I feel hopeful is just the beginning of the next chapter not the end of the book. Very very worried about the brand new tennis academy "dad" has built junior, 15 years from now we could be about to witness a second era of Williams domination!
