Boys: Donetsk City Cup, Ukraine, hard - Grade 2 (Week 4)

This may well prove a short thread, as the one Brit prepared to travel out to the Ukraine has ended up with the top seed

R1 (L32)

(1) Vitalii Shcherba (UKR) v Piers Foley

As predicted, it was/is a short thread. But Piers posted an excellent score so well done all the same:

R1 (L32)

(1) Vitalii Shcherba (UKR) def. Piers Foley 4-6 7-5 6-3

NB He is having a bash at the doubles too so maybe the thread will grow new legs :)

In case anyone else is wondering, the Donetsk City Cup is in fact being held in Cherkassy. When I saw this thread, I couldn't imagine how on earth you'd hold a tournament in Donetsk at present ... given this is the latest: www.theguardian.com/world/2015/jan/26/ukraine-donetsk-travel-permit-medicines.

I hope Mr Foley enjoys his time in the Ukraine, whether or not his tennis career there is brief ... and am glad people are traveling there. The country needs all the income that it can get.

Watch you don't annoy many Ukrainians by referring to 'Ukraine' as 'the Ukraine'. I had previously noticed how in the years following independence 'the Ukraine' had generally dropped out of usage and had discovered historical reasons for this.
