RE: Week 4 - Challenger ($50,000) - Hong Kong - Hard

Kyle will have to serve for the set, *5-4, after a hold to 30 for Ebden. Currently at 46% FS going into this game.

Kyle has a set point at 40-30 from 0-30 down but Ebden takes it to deuce. Kyle faces another break point but fails to make it four saved and is broken. FS at 44%, 5-5*.

A tough service game for Kyle but he sees it through to make it 2-1*.

Kyle breaks and holds for 4-1* in the second. Hopefully he can see this out from here because I should probably get some sleep before Murray's match!

L16: Kyle Edmund WR 192 beat Matthew Ebden (AUS) WR 264 (CH 61 in 2012) 7-6(5) 6-3 smile

Kyle got his serve working in the second set and after his hold for 2-1* it was looking like it would go rather swimmingly when he was serving for the match at *5-1. Ebden then broke for 5-2*, and held for *5-3 before Kyle served it out. All things considered, a good win against a guy who's been around the block a few times, and good self-improvement throughout the match. Now, time for bed methinks!

For good measure:

QF: Kyle Edmund WR 192 v Saketh Myneni (IND) WR 262 (CH 241 in Oct 2014)

He seemed to fly through that second set. Another 15 points in the bag.

Myneni has the vast majority of his points from Indian Challengers and a couple of Indian Futures, which I presume (maybe wrongly) would be weaker than the average tournament of that level.

He must have something about him to beat Berankis in round 1, but surely shouldn't be too big of an obstacle for Kyle to overcome to reach the semis.

Should move him above of Bloomers career high ranking too, just Andy, Ward, Evo and Boggo ahead from active players in this decade.

Great performance by Kyle and Beefy. The great hing is he still has to stay above Liam, Wardy's CH is a target that Wardy can still do something about and Andy the level at which he wants to play his tennis between 24 and 32, the later although optimistic is not unrealistic. Another great performance by Kyle. Well done and keep it up.

Another really solid performance from Kedders, adding to his strong start to the season. What has impressed me more than anything so far is his knack of coming through in tight situations. He seems to be winning a high percentage of the close ones (sets and matches) at the minute which is great to see. I always knew he had a great temperament and it appears to be paying dividends.

Well done Kyle and good luck in the QF :)

Yes, it's really good that hopefully Kyle and Liam can match each other stride for stride up the rankings...4 in the top 100 this year? Here's hoping! :)

At 20 there is so much that will get better purely due to increasing physical maturity and experience, hopefully as long as he continues with his grounded approach and the coaching set up consistent, this should put him in a place to compete with the best.

Bob I agree totally it is this improvement in dealing with the tight situations even when not playing well that is really promising and if it continues will give him the chance to win.
