Yes. Exactly. cry

Such a shame, especially when you see that Madison Brengle, for instance, won her first round, beating Petkovic, seeded 13.

And the top seeds continue to tumble - losses for the 12th, 13th, and 15th . . .

Bad luck Heather :(

Here's hoping she recovers and gets a win in the dubs :)

What a bad time to get a bug! Not that there is ever a good time, but some are less important than others. Rest up and recover soon, Heather. There is nearly a whole year ahead in which to win matches.

Is it a bug?

My thoughts were that it was a fairly regular thing that she had to manage resultant from her previous bout of glandular fever.

I think its a 'regular' thing but not glandular fever related according to some reports. If you know what I mean.

At least it looks like she gets tomorrow off before starting the doubles so hopefully will be better by Thursday.

Could do with winning a few double matches in GS - hasn't she only won 1?

Yes, she teamed up with Joss Rae to beat Dellacqua & Molik in her first-ever grand slam doubles match at Wimbledon in 2010 but has lost all 10 grand slam women's doubles matches since.

Radio 5 Live had a pretty frank interview this evening with Annabel Croft about Heather's issues in a more general female tennis player context.

Annabel was very pleased that they were being so frank about what she described as too often a "taboo" subject generally. Also she was a little surprised and quite pleased that Heather had made pretty clear what was at the root of her problems.

Anyway, lousy timing.

The link works, thanks. Heather did allude to it in her 5 Live interview ("girl problems" or something like that) as well. I've always thought it ridiculous that it is treated as such a taboo subject when just about anything else affecting performance is fine to talk about. I just thought it was good to know that's what it was (horrible and frustrating but far less worrying than a recurrence/effect of her glandular fever) and also something a doctor should be able to find ways to relieve a bit if it has become a significant problem.

Heather's bodily functions subject to scrutiny and intense debate here...

Hope she's back to her best for the doubles tonight.
