RE: Week 2 - Australian Open Qualifying

Lost 64 75

As expected but still disappointing. Needs to drop back to 25k level and build momentum and confidence again.

With Naomi can't help feeling that if that big serve of hers had been on song she might have sneaked this but not a bad result considering the 1st serve percentage.

I somehow feel Jo has lost the joy of being on a tennis court.  I watched her match on BT Sport v Mladenovic and was struck by just how good her groundstrokes and serve were but also by the fact that the only thing her body language said was tight and nervous.  Think back to when she had her good run at the US Open qualifying and winning a round or 2 in the main draw.  Looking at her on the court then the words which came to mind we're feisty and positive.  I don't know if Jo still trains at the NTC or who her coach is, nor do I know anything about her life away from the court, but to my mind something has sucked all the enjoyment and confidence out of her tennis.  She no longer looks like she is enjoying the fight, she looks scared to lose and that IMO will be a big problem whatever level she drops down to.

When was the last time we didn't have a single win in Oz qualies? I always remember it being a fairly happy stomping ground for our ladies.

Pretty shocking. When you look at the match stats she served 11 aces. 11! Winners and UFs were pretty comparable too, only points to the mental.

On the outside courts aces = winners and double faults = errors.

Piers from the BBC confirms she was erratic. Unfortunately Anna wasn't, because she can go totally off the boil too.

A tiny bit more detail, but not much. Not really like Jo to lose it at an umpire, so must have been bad.

Both girls conquerors went on to qualify so that shows the quality of opposition.

Exactly. Doesn't really mean a hole heap of beans, but the two of them (Radw. and Tati.) qualified nicely (Anna walked through, Urzsula only 7-5 in the third). Weren't the best draws for our players . . .
