RE: Week 2 - Australian Open Qualifying

Austin Krajicek next for Kyle, Jared Donaldson for Liam again one would be optimistic, it's really difficult to predict outcomes between about 230-130 as so many players are in development, improving week to week fluctuating with bouts of inconsistency.

Looking at junior highs and yea on year progression I think gives you an idea of long term quality which would put the boot in the feet of the British boys. That said form cannot be ignored in the case of Krajicek. He is your typical college to pros transition where college was the right choice given his junior rank now excelling in doubles plus a decent win over someone who would have whipped him as a college player. Recent challenger win probably on clay but stand to be corrected.

Donaldson both Liam and Kyle will know and would be looking to beat on current form

Indeed good to see Ireland's James McGee win his QR1. For the moment though I hope he doesn't qualify - he's in Kyle's section !

He can reach the FQR and be beaten there by Kyle :)

Good results for Liam and Kyle - looks like it could be interesting watching how they both progress this year

Two superb performances. Liam has given himself a great chance now.

Great to see Kyle follow Liam into QR2 with what looks like a comprehensive win. I have to confess to being a "lightweight" when it comes to all-nighters and crashed out midway through the 1st set at 3-3. Woke up at 5am and checked the score though before returning to the land of Nod.

Looking forward to round 2 already.

Sorry to be ignorant - are there any points to be gained in the qualifying rounds?

Yes.  From memory it is 8 points for 1st round win rising to 35 points for qualification (plus a minimum of 10 more for a 1st round loss in the in the MD).  Can't remember what you get for winning the 2nd round of qualies but 17 springs to mind. I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Edit - Scrap those numbers and see the post further down the page. Put these down to having had a late night last night following Live Scores.

It would help if I got the numbers right though. I am now thinking that it is QR1 - 8 points, QR2 - 16 points, Qualification 25 points (+10 even if you lose in the 1st round of the MD.) You might like to check back in 10 mins when I have triple checked my numbers.

Edit - OK.  I will go with these numbers. Pretty sure they are correct now.

cracking news to wake up to this morning. particularly impressive from Liam, and both players have a good chance in the next round I think.
