Can't really judge from one match, but hoping this is the start of a good thing from Alex, and he seems the most likely to "break through" of the current bunch outside the top 250 imho
Alex is probably one of the fittest guys on tour and that will help him get through matches at this level. If you read Josh G blogs he reckons that he did well at futures partially due to his superior fitness.
Alex certainly had good form in futures last year.
That though was a change from 2013 when his futures form seemed strangely erratic, but he seemed to really step it up in challengers with some pretty good results and most of his ranking points.
I recall various comments after say challenger defeats that maybe it's not really his level, should move to ATP tour :)
It is encouraging, on top of this good fitness, that he has shown the ability to mix it at challenger level. Hope to see him back there later in the year.
I only saw Alex play one match last year but was really impressed by what a solid, physical game he had - rather clay court in style, a real weight of ball and power in his legs.
My only fear is from having two identical stress fractures, same place, so quickly in succession. But I'm no doctor so hopefully am talking utter twaddle !
Alex saved a set point at *4-5 and then took the one break of the second set in the next game, both having had quite a number of break points during that second set.
