Seeled with an ace, that suddenly went awry rather quickly.
Kyle loses 6-4 6-4
Very true. Not much in it really once Kyle appeared to "get" his opponent's serve (he barely won a point on it for about 3 or 4 games)......until it ran away from him extremely quickly from a strong position in set 2.....which was a recurring theme last year. Not a great start to 2015, but not a complete disaster either
Big change for Kyle this year compared to last. Tough opposition from the get go, another new experience, exciting but undoubtedly will require a bit of patience. It will be interesting to see how James goes early doors having be there ie straight into tournament play at this level after a winter break. Fingers crossed for a good performance to set the tone for 2015
Looks a decent-ish performance from Kedders - first match of the year and reasonably competitive against a player on the brink of the top 100. Before long though such matches are going to have to start being won.
QR1: Kyle Edmund WR 194 lost to (q2) Blaz Kavcic (SLO) WR 105 (CH 68 in 2012) by 4 & 4
QR1: (q3) James Ward WR 107 lost to Jesse Huta Galung (NED) WR 194 (CH 91 last Feb) by 7-6(4) 6-1
Both had tricky matches (Kyle the 2nd seed but against whom he had a 1-0 H2H and Wardy a lower-ranked but ex-top 100 player against whom he had a 0-2 H2H) but I did hope at least one of them would win (Wardy would have got an extremely out-of-form de Bakker in QR2 too, whose win against a Moroccan today was his first for a while) or at least that one of the four Brits playing ATP/WTA main tour qualies today would have survived

I see Kavcic went on to qualify very easily, beating 2 players ranked above Kyle in straight sets and dropping fewer games. JHG however lost to De Bakker in his next match.
