RE: Week 1 - Challenger ($50,000) - Happy Valley, Aus (Hard)

Hmm, I'm not sure about the 'preparing' spin. But Authom is very clearly a guy in form and no doubt confident, whatever level his wins have been at so was likely to be pretty tough. I thought it would be closer though.

Hopefully Liam can step it up next week as he will need to do.

Authom is still very much under-ranked, to be fair to Liam.

what a dismal week for the Brits!

Impossible to tell from the 2 matches whether Liam is in the same kind of form as the back end of last year, or not - next week will be the big test I guess, hope he gets a good QR1 draw.

Authom, I believe, has now won 29 matches on the trot.

It's a phenomenal record and, of course, has to stop somewhere now he's back up in Challengers, but maybe not quite yet (he was WR 143 about 18 months ago).

Liam didn't seem best pleased with the way he was playing in round one but he seems in pretty good form, all told.

well I hope Liam doesn't feel too disappointed and hard on himself. He did so well last year, so no reason why he cant continue to win matches and climb further up the rankings. He seems quick to learn from a match too. Its never easy to win against someone on a winning roll - 29 matches !! Am hoping he'll draw US players in the qualifying as he had quite a good record against them late last year!

Let us put in in perspective, Liam has only just stepped up to the challenger circuit and has some very good results and some disappointing results.

I will take a little bit of time to get the consistency at this level(we know he has the ability) and confidence is a big factor.

What will be beneficial is some kind early draws, so he can pick up some points and there will not be the pressure later in the season to defend those points and maintain his ranking.

Nobody has suggested that there is any particular cause for concern. It is very early in the season to be making particular judgements let alone most of us haven't seen him play yet this year.

But please allow some of us to say things like we are a bit disappointed with results without defense forces being send out as if we'd been saying anything more.

I am an at times rather dour Scot, I have problems constantly looking at the bright side of life :)

Absolutely Paulisi, don't expect too much of yourself just yet when you're playing these players, and I'm sure the forum wishes you well in your new career wink
