Let's hope Liam is in the zone, I'm optimistic but no change there .

I hope that your general optimism is fulfilled in 2015, Oakland, and my hopes :)

C'mon, Liam.

No BPs for either player.

Liam had to save 2 bps but now has a couple of his own and they are set points - he takes the first 6-4

6-4 *2-0. Took a while for the first to pan out but hopefully this is Liam on his way to a win for the start of the year.

Not going to be that easy.  Grills breaks back.

2-1*

Liam breaks for the match

L32: Liam Broady WR 192 beat (Q) Jacob Grills (AUS) WR 693 (= CH) by 4 & 4

L16: Liam Broady WR 192 v (Q) Maxime Authom (BEL) WR 209 (CH 143 in 2013)

Authom is on a 28-match winning streak, having won 5 Futures in a row at the end of last year then 2 matches in qualifying and his R1 match here. Those Futures titles included Loughborough and Bath and Authom is also on a 9-match Brit-bashing streak since retiring against Brydan in Wimbledon qualies, after which he was out of action for 3 months.

Well done, Liam. All the more so because it's about the first decent-ish win of 2015 for Team Britain (Andy's matches were fine but non-scoring things are not quite the same . .. )

Unfortunately, both lost in the doubles, despite being higher ranked:

R1: (WC) Omar Jasika & Marc Polmans (AUS/AUS) CR 1712 (949+763) def. Liam Broady & Chung Hyeon (KOR) CR 678 (286+392) 6-4 7-6(1)

R1: Gong Mao-Xin & Zhang Ze (CHN/CHN) CR 533 (135+398) def. Brydan Klein & Stefano Travaglia (ITA) CR 454 (210+244) 6-4 6-4

Happy with that, by the way I hope I'm not the only person who thought this event was being held in Hong Kong !!

err yes Hong Kong crossed my mind at one point for some reason !

Well done to Liam, it cant be easy to get straight back to the form he was in late last year, pleased he won and good luck for the rest of the tournament. Does anyone know if there's live streaming for the matches? I had a look on Livestream for the match but couldn't find anything. Did anyone watch it live?
