Boys & Girls: Metropolia Orange Bowl International Championship, USA, clay - Grade A (Week 50)

The draw for the main event, which starts tomorrow, should be out later this evening, with Alexis Canter, Katie Swan, Gabi Taylor, Maia Lumsden, Emily Arbuthnott, Anastasia Mikheeva and Emily Smith on the acceptance list - though there have been a few late withdrawals. The under 16s start today, but I don't think there are any Brits involved.

Ema Lazic retired from her first qualifier, but Jodie Burrage is through to final qualifying. Her match is scheduled to follow the one currently in the early stages on court 6 with live scoring available at http://orangebowltennis.ids-sports.com/mip.aspx  (links to results and draws are at http://orangebowltennis.ids-sports.com/Default.aspx )

The draw isn't the kindest for katie or the Emilys:

Katie Swan gets the third seed: Vondrousova, 15 years old, ranked 12 in the world

Emily Arbuthnott gets fourth seed Kalinskaya, aged 16, ranked 13th

Emily Smith plays sixth seed, Stollar, aged 16, ranked 16

But Nastya gets Mia Horvit (ranked 81), and Maia will play Dolehide, a SE, ranked 135 . . .. which is a little cheerier

And Alexis draws a qualifier, Van Slyke, Canadian, ranked 211

Caroline Dolehide reached the semis of the Eddie Herr last week as well as the US Open, and with Nastya struggling today Katie may be the best hope of a win amongst the girls, despite playing a top seed.

Boys R1 (L64)

(Q) Jack W Van Slyke (CAN) v Alexis Canter

Girls R1 (L64)

Anastasia Mikheeva v Mia Horvit (USA) currently 2-6 0-2
(4) Anna Kalinskaya (RUS) v Emily Arbuthnott
Emily Smith v (6) Fanni Stollar (HUN)
Katie Swan v (3) Marketa Vondrousova (CZE) currently 6-4 2-5
Maia Lumsden v (SE) Caroline Dolehide (USA)

I knew she could do it. She's done really well this year against girls her age and younger, her only defeat coming against Bellis.
