Week 50 - Togo F1 ($15,000+H) - Lomé (Hard)

A 15K+H in Togo looked like it could be well worth the trip but Joe has drawn one of the shortest straws ...

L32: Joe Salisbury WR 1050 v (4) Jaime Pulgar García (ESP) WR 352 (CH 348 last month)

Edit: rankings updated

Into a 2nd set tiebreak. Joe saves a set point and now has match point on JPG's serve ... 2nd serve ... saved

But now another MP on his own serve *8-7

L32: Joe Salisbury WR 1050 beat (4) Jaime Pulgar García (ESP) WR 352 (CH 348 last month) by 7-5 7-6(7)

An excellent win, not that far off his career best scalp, which should give him a very good chance of picking up 4 points (QF points for a 15K+H) here

A win in the L16 will not only see Joe move into the Top 1000 for the 1st time, but will see him leap over 100 places to the mid 930s. Come on Joe. Big opportunity now and fully deserved after today's performance.

Looks like the serve is really dominant in this one. Joe is 1/3 on BPs whilst Darko has yet to create a BP in the entire match.

Joe leads 2-1* in the decider.

Edit

Super jinxing from BiS there because as I type, Joe forces another BP and takes it for *3-1.  Come on.

Into the Top 1000 for Joe. smile

The scoreline was very tight considering that Joe managed to complete the entire match without facing a single BP.
