Emily is provisionally up to GB no 4 on Monday week ( Tara is down for the 50K in Turkey next week ) and she has nothing further to defend this year. Reaching the final here looks like it would have her close to the top 300 again with winning the title probably making sure, and she has an Indian 25K next week to come.

Since Katy's Imola 15K title in July it has been a relatively unprofitable and probably pretty frustrating few months. Hopefully she is now fully fit and can have a good close season. Would be good to sign off well over the next two weeks.

Provisional ranking points on Monday week ( with no further points to defend after that this year ) :

4. Emily 120 ( including 5 so far this week )
5. Tara 112 ( down for Turkey 50K next week )
6. Katy D 107
7. Katie B 94

Tara's still on the list, but will have to come through qualifying.

Interesting that alot of our girls are still playing well into December, what happened to the notion that having a bit of rest and then having a hard core off season training stint was the way forward.

Completely understand why Emily/ Naomi are playing at the moment, but I'm a little unsure why Katy/Katie/Harriet are still playing. If someone can explain the reasoning I'm all ears. Maybe they will rest over Chrimbo and then train during January possibly.

Em and Raina are into the semis of the doubles, winning their QF 6-2 6-3

Hi Phil, yeah my guess was that they are just shifting it back, so will have a rest after Christmas and a few weeks off season training block in January and then start their season at the beginning of February, probably in Glasgow?

Or maybe they just saw it as potential to get some easier points (Djibouti especially)

chasing easyish points for a Wimbledon WC? Points are notoriously hard to come by in Jan/Feb in Europe and the fields are loaded with girls not made it to Australia and looking to start their season.

Cheers the 2 Pauls, I suppose it makes sense, although chasing easy points just for your ranking will not in the end be extremely beneficial IMHO.

Yes, I too assumed they were pushing back their close season. I certainly agree that they should have have good length personal close seasons.

If the likes of Emily, Katy and Katie, fancied the December Indian tournaments and then time off over New Year and train through January at least when there's nothing much at their level they'ed be missing, that would look fine to me.

With paulisi also pointing to the potentially less loaded fields / easier points late in the year compared to Jan / Feb, while I would agree with Phil that winning easier points in itself is not likely to be in the long term particularly beneficial, it certainly shouldn't do any harm ( and could help some a bit ) as long as they can still obtain the necessary support and facilities for a delayed training block.

Rest over Christmas and / or New Year, training block in January, sounds very civilised :)

Em will play Palha who beat Njircic 7-5 4-6 7-6(5) (played the final set this morning).

Sadly both the live scores and the stream are down at the moment

The two Katy/ies resumed their doubles match that was looking a little sad (they'd lost the first set 5-7) and managed to win the second set 6-2 AND THEN got the MTB 10-8 :::)))

Add: this was against Lazareva and Shapatava, the top seeds smile
