After making 25 Futures doubles QFs (before this week), Scott has finally made his first Futures singles QF

Wow, I hadn't realised that Scott had never previously reached a futures singles QF. May this be the first of many and more than that.

And well done Richard too on that win.

Yes, he has been the opposite of (recent) Liam, you could say - now 1-14 in singles R2 matches since he got his first ATP point in 2012. It's not as if he never wins back-to-back matches though - 10 of those previous 14 R2 losses came after he had won his way through qualifying before winning his R1 match.

QF:  Adam Chadaj & Adam Majchrowicz (POL/POL) CR 1522 (932+690) "defeated" (3) Scott Clayton & Richard Gabb CR 856 (432+424) by a walkover hmm

I presume the boys wish to concentrate on their respective singles campaigns.

Dan breaks to 15 for the match, so 3 out of 3 again

L16: (4) Dan Smethurst WR 290 beat Peter Heller (GER) WR 483 (CH 430 in 2013) by 6-7(1) 6-1 6-3
L16: Richard Gabb WR 577 beat (6) N. Sriram Balaji (IND) WR 349 (CH 309 last month) by 7-6(4) 6-1
L16: (Q) Scott Clayton WR 1123 beat (Q) Patrick Davidson (USA) UNR (CH 1188 in 2013) by 4 & 2

QF: (4) Dan Smethurst WR 290 v (8) Victor Baluda (RUS) WR 387 (CH 290 in 2013) *
QF: Richard Gabb WR 577 v Maximilian Neuchrist (AUT) WR 443 (CH 310 in 2013)
QF: (Q) Scott Clayton WR 1123 v (2) Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND) WR 224 (CH 211 last month)

A chance for Dan to avenge his 4 & 1 loss to Baluda in last week's QFs

Time not just for revenge for Dan but to stop his recent run of losing QFs.

I don't know if it's just being careful, or if one has an actual niggle, but the lads (Scott and Richard) have withdrawn from the doubles

If they are not playing next week, I guess they have not entered so they can make a quick getaway if they lose in singles. Let's hope they have to stay there all week anyway.

Edit

Cancel that. Just checked and they are down to play next week.
