RE: LTA Calendar 2015

It would appear we have another challenger. Updated ATP calendar shows an event in Glasgow during the 1st week of February.

Bit of a strange time to hold this.

I thought at first it was to give some of our DC hopefuls some time on indoor courts, but it is a little too early

I'd expect a few of the challenger players playing Aus Open Q to stay and play Aus Challengers. Klein i'm certain will. I wonder if any more may stay out.

I'd expect it to be loaded as there are no other challengers in Europe and very few futures and little benefit to our players

This would replace the 3rd 10k futures event......leaving only two and I didn't think you could do that?  Somethings certainly muddled.

On the women's side, it seems that, compared to last year, 3 (possibly 4) 25k British tournaments have now been dropped from the LTA schedule from Jan thru March.

Perhaps the LTA is now hoping for the next Brit female contender to spring fully armed from the forehead of Andy Murray.

It seems like the event was put on to help the Brits, but the Brits seem to have avoided it.

Corrie is the only direct entry. Liam is playing Dallas, Kyle and Klein are playing Burnie and James Ward is playing ATP qualies/main draw.

Smethurst, Cox, Ward, Rice, Willis etc all entry lists. No sign of Dan Evans

I don't think that's a complete calendar. First 3 weeks 10ks then 15ks and challengers- I think it'll be added to (at least I hope so)

Doesn't look like it.

Last year there were 11 men's futures before the grass season, this year just 4. On the women's side there was 2 10k's and 4 25ks and this year just 1 10k and 2 25k's. hmm

Wow, if that's the case.

But I guess that'll help further toughen up these GB players loitering around at that level. These tournaments were proving far too generous in terms of prize money and ranking points for GB players. That was one missed area that needed clamping down on.

Most of these players will never make it and really look far too much to the LTA to put on tournaments of real benefit to them. They were proving a hastle to put on anyway, taking the LTA's attention away from other things such as supporting Kyle and Liam and the next generation.

I think we should cancel all the futures. Just think of all the money saved . . .

Then, with that huge pot, we could employ a team of management consultants to study how to use the money saved.

Oh, but hold on, actually there wouldn't be any money saved because it will all have been spent on the management consultants . . . . forgot about that . . . .

I would be interested to know how much of the enlarged grass court season is coming out of the LTA's coffers, rather than Wimby's.

Frinton and Felixstowe will both be used to stage 15k's on grass for the men. Frinton during the 2nd week of Wimbledon, Felixstowe the week after. The ladies don't appear to have anything scheduled yet though???

I am glad Frinton survived the cull. It was where I watched my first ever futures match and it is a charming venue.

The LTA calendar is updated for 2nd half of the year now. No other challengers for the men, in fact no more 10k's either. The ladies have 10, 15 and 25k's all scheduled. Its all a bit bare looking though.

There are a few 15K's though for the men.

I'm not sure what the issue is with the North West - Preston, Wrexham, Sportcity not on the roster. South East gets a better deal. Cumberland is also off, but replaced by Chiswick & Roehampton)

I'm sure they could use Roehampton a bit more often - given it's lack of use.

Shrewsbury seems to be a popular venue....
