2015 Female ranking predictions

As it is now December, it may be wise to start a separate thread to predict 2105 male rankings.

I know we had a board competition last time, but that is purely down for a volunteer if they wish to run again, but no reason why we shouldn't put down predictions again.

Plenty of things to consider:

Which of our injured girls are going to be fit and competitive - Laura, Sam, Jade, Eleanor, Lisa

What schedule will our better juniors take - there are plenty of them

Who will be the next out of retirement(if any)

Which of our rising stars will progress quickest - Katy, Katie, Naomi, to name but a few

Will EWS continue to play the every other event at the age of 30.

I reckon that this is going to be very challenging with players at different stages of development and progression or perhaps ( hopefully much fewer ) regression, before even considering players suffering from or seemingly quite close to returning from injury.

I'm counting a lot of players who "could" be GB top 10 without beginning to start predicting their GB and world rankings.

I'll get back to you in a few weeks :)

PS : if Em was to restrict herself to every other event, she'd be already really cutting down !

Sim, are you going to be doing the excel (?) sheets again ? And, if so, when is the deadline for 'inscriptions' ?????

This is really hard, but I have gone for the following provisional top 20:

Heather Watson 42
Laura Robson 79
Jo Konta 125
Naomi Cavaday 176
Katie Boulter 212
Naomi Broady 214
Katy Dunne 232
Tara Moore 248
Eleanor Dean 298
Amanda Carreras 305
Emily Webley-Smith 310
Harriet Dart 330
Sam Murray 370
Freya Christie 530
Isabelle Wallace 540
Lisa Whybourn 550
Jade Windley 610
Anna Brogan 615
Fran Stepehenson 630
Manisha Foster 650

I'm hopeful that that the likes of Cav, Katie, Katy, Eleanor will be fit and jump the rankings.
Sam - I've seen tweets that she is hopeful of a comeback, but I suspect it will take a bit of time to get that ranking back and she may end up being a doubles specialist
Jade - back injuries are notoriously difficult to shake off and i'm not sure she will have a full season, she may end up being a doubles specialist

I'd be quite happy if the top 20 girls were ranked in the top 650 in the world.

The one i'm still dithering on is Anna Brogan. If she plays the South American clay and find lots of weak draws, that ranking may be better than predicted. However she could play juniors and have exams so who knows.

I dont mind doing it again as I have the format sorted in excel and once i have created the files it is easy to update.

deadline midnight on New Years Eve.

Top 10 predictions onky.

Did mention about a bulls eye bonus if you get world ranking spot on, perhaps with a sliding scale of  point depending on world ranking; 2pts if inside top 10, 3pts if  11 to 50, 4pts if 51 to 100 and 5 for over 100. what does everyone think?

Helen you can also get to the results from the British Tennis home page and click on competitions(BOTB).

Laura 20

Heather 35

JoKo 110

Naomi Broady 220

Katy Dunne 225

Tara 230

Naomi Cavaday 240

Eleanor 255

Katie Boulter 260

Emily W-S 310

(Revised list)

Don't know enough about the respective injury situations of Lisa, Sam and Jade, to be confident they'll play enough to be inside top 350. Harriet might be close. Don't know why Amanda's ranking fell away this year.

If I was more optimistic about Eleanor's fitness, I would rank her higher. Laura could be anything, even with a fairly full schedule.

Eleanor Dean 115
Katie Boulter 150
Katy Dunne 155
Naomi Cavaday 170
Naomi Broady 180
Emily Webley-Smith 260
Amanda Carreras 290

Notable youngsters:

Harriet Dart 350
Anna Brogan 390
Katie Swan 460
Freya Christie 480
Maia Lumsden 630
Gabriella Taylor 650

I've opted for a more optimistic approach for most of these girls. As others have said, it's hard to predict how Sam, Jade, and Lisa will do, but it was hard for me to find room for them in my top ten.

I've forgotten Tara Moore! She's too talented to be struggling as she has recently. My guess is she'll get toaround 160

Amanda had a hip operation which caused her to miss quite a few months.

I think Sim's sliding scale bull's eye bonus proposal looks good.

The maximum additional boost of 5 points for any player wouldn't really overturn everything else since you'ed still have to be pretty much in contention already to really profit overall, and it's a nice late added interest. And if someone should shoot up at the end with an amazing two or three on the nose, good luck to them !

I assume that the end rankings for both the men's and women's predictions will be after the ATP World Tour Finals ? ( I think it was this year ).

I'll still hold fire for now to see how a few contendors end their season, and of course maybe for some get decent early points on the board for the competition. And also, particularly with so many variables for the women, I haven't at the moment got that much of a ruddy clue !

Harriet 330
Eleanor 350

I've been quite pessimistic for those with injuries. Primarily because with both Laura and Sam it's the unpredictability of a major wrist injury and with Eleanor, history dictates she won't play a full schedule. If she's fully fit for a year we would all predict top 250, I suspect.

My wildcard would be Freya Christie. Saw her at Wimbledon (albeit in the girls doubles), powerful, senior-friendly game. She did well taking a set off a top 200 player last month and if she plays majority senior events, I can see her pushing top 500 for sure, possibly higher.

Other notable absentees - Lisa, Anna B, EWS. But I'm hanging my hat on Harriet who, if she can get some consistency, is a good prospect.

....but then tomorrow I might have an entirely different list in my head! :)

A couple of slight amendments:

Heather Watson 42
Laura Robson 79
Jo Konta 125
Naomi Cavaday 176
Katie Boulter 212
Naomi Broady 214
Katy Dunne 232
Emily Webley-Smith 285
Amanda Carreras 305
Tara Moore 315
Harriet Dart 330
Eleanor Dean 350
Sam Murray 370
Anna Brogan 445
Freya Christie 530
Isabelle Wallace 540
Lisa Whybourn 550
Jade Windley 610
Fran Stepehenson 630
Maia Lumsden 680

Here's mine

Heather 31
Laura 87
JoKo 95
Naomi B 180
Naomi Cavaday 195
Katy Dunne 198
Katie Boulter 204
Tara Moore 245
Amanda Carreras 297
EWS 301

Beyond that i'm totally not sure. 2014 was a big disappointment on the womens side for a ton of reasons but there were also signs of good things to come with a lot of the juniors making big strides and starts in the senior game.

If she's injury free all year i can see Eleanor Dean being anywhere from 150-400

I hope people don't mind me entering my predictions? I might seem a "newbie" but I've been a (very) long time visitor to the forum:

Heather Watson 45
Laura Robson 100
Naomi Broady 145
Joanna Konta 150
Naomi Cavaday 190
Katy Dunne 230
Katie Boulter 240
Harriet Dart 285
Emily Webley-Smith 300
Tara Moore 350
Eleanor Dean 355

This was really difficult! I want to be even more optimistic of the young players, but having recently read Heather Watson's recent article in the Mail Online about the lack of hard work of our players I scaled my rankings back a little.

Laura Robson's ranking I found the toughest to predict. Who knows how her injury is going to hold up, or indeed how much she "wants it."

Fingers crossed for a great 2015 for all of our players.
