Boys & Girls: Eddie Herr ITF, USA, clay - Grade 1 (Week 49)

There's good British representation in the girls at the prestigious Eddie Herr Grade 1 event at the IMG Bollittieri academy.

Firstly, congrats to Ema Lazic who got through qualifying. smile

(Jodie Anna Burrage and Sebastien Butler both lost in the second round of qualies)

BOYS:

R1: Alexis Canter v (10) Alejandro Tabilo (CAN)

GIRLS:

R1: Gabriella Taylor v Destanee Aiava (AUS) age 14

R1: (q) Ema Lazic v Jessica Ho (USA)

R1: Katie Swan v Mia Horvit (USA)  (Katie won easily in Japan quite recently)

R1: Maia Lumsden v (wc) Claudia Wiktorin (USA)

R1: Anastasia Mikheeva v (7) Dalma Galfi (HUN)

R1: Emily Smith v (q) Kylie McKenzie (USA)

Just as an aside, and for Bob Brett to bear in mind, of those 6 girls, to the best of my knowledge, 4 of them are based and train abroad.

NB I don't think we have any young players in the U12, U14 or U16 competition.

edit: various nationalities and spellings corrected

Tough draw for Nastya against the girl who won the Mexican GA 2 weeks ago.

We have just one girl, as far as I am aware, in the lower age categories - Amarni Banks in the under 12s (plus one who lost in the under 16 qualifying)

Gaby lost to a 14 year old ranked 61! Wow. Keep an eye on her.

She is actually up to 55 in the current rankings and is the only 2000 girl in the top 100. Another Aussie on the production line and will almost certainly probably break into the top 50 in the next few weeks.

Destanee has been singled out as one to watch for some while. She thumped Maia 2 & 1 at the Canadian Open and this win earns her a crack at the top '99 CiCi Bellis. The pair played at the World Juniors last year, with CiCi edging it 6-4 7-5

Bristol v Leeds, I've spoken to Naiktha and her dad a couple of times, and they're are great people, but from a British perspective, I hope Katie wins this one.

Naiktha has had a relatively lean time since reaching the Trofeo Bonfiglio final in May, so a good chance for Katie to upset a seed. An opportunity for Maia to make amends for an error-strewn performance against Michaela at Wimbledon

Good news! (TBC) according to @zootennis on Twitter, Katie beat Naiktha 6-4 6-4!

I'm not seeing that result on the twitter page.

I see it there. Just says Swan 4&4. Looks like a response to a specific request.

Found it. Can't imagine it being wrong, seeing as Colette Lewis is at the site. Great result for Katie, although I thought she would be able to pull off the upset.
