Kyle serves out comfortably to win 7-5 6-3 and advances to the QF. Kyle only dropped 5 points on serve in the 2nd set and looked at lot more solid than earlier in the match.
QF: Kyle Edmund WR 230 v Ze Zhang (CHN) WR 191 (CH = 148 last year)
If Kyle wins I think he'll be right on the edge of the top 200, will probably need to reach the final though. Would be great if we can have 4 in top 200 for first time since 2006 according to Steven's year end tables, even if the top 500 numbers have decreased slightly.
Easy win for Kyle, some resistance in the first set where Kyle had some long service games but as per BiS second set early break and then a formality. Really hoping the next round goes well. A deep run here would allow him/ us to reflect on a good year. Early ITF success then lead to exposure to the ATP tour and Davis cup tennis.
This I think really allowed some quality assessment ie where he is and where he need to be. European challenger success and subsequent North American and now far eastern challenger events where he has more than held his own.
Just looked back at the Liam v Marcus QF from last week and the difference in physique between the three guys doesn't warrant comment. The theoretical question as to whether Liam might get an invite to train with Andy given Kyle spent time with him last year makes you wonder what would happen to Marcus should he get one. There would be no benefit he is a year or so away from being well enough conditioned to survive.
The Champaign may not have been flowing over in the USA with some agonising losses, but these days there still seems to be someone somewhere delivering some GB challenger success. Well done, Kyle.
As well as closing in on the top 200 rather more parochially if he was to win the title as well as him then clearly smashing into that top 200 he would go up to GB no 3. That would be a rather nice sign off for the year.
After his fine first round victory over Bradley Ideally he will go really deep and be able to have another go at the Milkman and get some revenge for Taralagon, not meaning to jump the gun but some really interesting challenges ahead over the next few days!

I think we have to be optimistic just looking at the way Kyle and Liam have progressed in rematches against opponents who have beaten them this year, often they neat them and even when they loose a second time they have usually made significant inroads into the deficit, all very promising. Normally they to mature players 24 plus in and around the top 100 who should be approaching their peak
Liam's performances against Franks are interesting similar pattern but slightly different given they are of similar age and taken different routes to get where they are. I presume Franks is going back after Christmas to complete his senior year and if so Liam may have shown him a clean pair of heels by the next US open?
