Great result from Kyle. And one real improvement of late appears to be staying in matches and not falling away sometimes quite alarmingly in third and even second sets. Showing better match play. Good to see and if this can be allied to him more consistently bringing close to his best game to court he could really progress fairly quickly next year, more especially if he can further improve that best game !
Into the top 200 and will overtake Liam if he wins this first challenger final for him. Likely to really need to be on the ball to achieve that.
But clearly he's seen me pointing out that he was just a bit better ranked than our competition average prediction for the year ( clearly actually not a criticism ( can't logically be ), just a relative point. So he has really determined to beat it by much more :) Very good to see.
Great to end the season, however differently we here may reflect on elements of that season, with such confidence giving victories and into that top 200.
There have been some harsh comments in relation to Kyles year, probably due to distraction by the overt objective measures that are easily available. This is a board for discussion and following the activities of British tennis players around the world, everyone is entitled to an opinion particularly as most are great to read, exceptionally informative and only a few cause minor frustration. The general tone of the board is respectful and I for one thoroughly enjoy the level of detail and information available. As yet not one beheading has been posted although I fear from some of the harsher comments that some may be after Greg. (I am in no way suggesting or condoning such action)
That said much of the evidence presented is anecdotal (in a statistical context), not that it should be aired but we must accept a valid assessment of development is difficult. There has been some discussion as to whether Kyles programme for development this year has been fit for purpose. We do need to step away from the objective measures which are intrinsic to the way the ATP tour functions when looking at the performance of young players, those in transition and juniors. Reference to them and seeing the objective progression of others where the agenda has been to address areas of development that are more subjective can be misleading. Indeed when subtle areas of development are being addressed that are designed to impact performance long term it can be detrimental to short term objective measures.
Validated Measurement of individual techniques in itself is difficult but can be done. Global development with so many confounding variables when transitioning from competence to mastery and no defined curriculum is beyond the scope of this board.
My view is that Kyles year has been a great year for development one might not use such language if referring to obhective measures only.
I admitted my glass is half full but with the milkman beckoning that can only be a good thing

Agree wholeheartedly.
If Kyle wins tomorrow and wants to play Toyota next week, would he be eligible for a SE?
Cracking win and racking up some good points here. Think millman will be a step too far- he's just too consistent and will wait for kyle's errors- but hope am proved wrong.
Kyles not entered Toyota next week (draw out) , bit of a shame as relatively weak field.
Well Done Kyle. A great week so far. Hope he can end it with a challenger title in the bag.
Will be good to see Liam and Kyle push each other on at this level and also push James forward too. With plenty coming on behind, things are looking pretty decent.
As an aside, interesting to note how many Aussies seem to be doing well this year (5 in top 100, 13 in top 200!). Have always thought we're reasonably similar- ie affluent, English-speaking country, grand slam hosts, but generally only 1 or 2 "top" players- but they're clearly doing something right.
Is it just luck that there's a decent crop right now, or have they found a formula that works?
Great news to wake up to. Sort of wished I had stayed up now. Actually woke up (briefly and accidentally) at 5am so quickly flicked up the result on the ATP app on the Iphone before going back to sleep very happy.
Top 200 while still a teenager is a terrific achievement and this was (probably) his last opportunity to get there.
As for the final versus "Ernie", it will be tough. I saw the match last week and for much of it, Kyle was on a par with him but the turning point was that net cord at 4-4 Ad out that gave Millman the first break. Millman has still yet to drop more than 7 games in any match in the last two weeks, so will clearly start favourite, but that won't stop us hoping and cheering for a Kedders victory. It is certainly not out of the realms of possibility.
OK. Time to sit and watch the rerun now. Judging from the comments, I may skip the 1st three games
